Outside of the movies, Star Wars: 6 of Princess Leia's most amazing things (Outside Of The Movies) ...

Princess Leia is one of the most powerful Star Wars heroes in the film. She is played by Carrie Fisher in the film, and her accomplishments in the films are absolutely impressive. After all, defeating the Galactic Empire is no easy task!

Even despite these impressive feats, the character surpassed even more outside of the films. Much of this material is from the ancient Expanded Universe, now known as Legends. For those unfamiliar with the Star Wars Legends continuity, these daring exploits performed by the Rebel heroine may seem surprising.

6 Duelled Darth Vader

One of the first additions to the old Expanded Universe was a 1978 novel titled Splinter of the Mind''s Eye. After the events of A New Hope, Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia are marooned on a swamp planet known as Mimban. While on the planet, Luke attempts to obtain a rare Kaiburr crystal, an artifact strong in the Force.

While Luke is incapacitated, Leia briefly fends off the Sith Lord in the process, but she even gets rid of one of Vader''s arms! One of the character''s finest moments is Leia''s willingness to defend Luke against dangerous odds.

A Reborn Emperor Palpatine Protected Her Son

When it''s discovered that Palpatine''s spirit survived his mortal body''s death at Endor, Palpatine unites the divide in the Empire once more with the help of several terrible superweapons. Palpatine almost brings the fledgling New Republic to its knees.

When his clone body fails, Palpatine tries to find another host. Eventually, he tries to possess Anakin Solo, Han, and Leia''s young son, while luckily exploits her latent Force powers, shielding her son from the Sith Master''s grasp. Palpatine''s body is now disappearing forever.

4 Became A Leader Of The New Republic

After the Empire''s defeat at Endor, the rebel Alliance gains newfound legitimacy. Separatist cells evolve into a functioning, independent government that replaces the Imperial government. Many of the Rebellion''s heroes, including Princess Leia, Han Solo, and Luke Skywalker, all play a key role in the new government, known as the New Republic.

Leia, in particular, has held several key positions throughout the New Republic''s lifespan. During her first tenure, she was selected Chief of State seven years after Endor''s showdown. It''s only fitting that such a prominent figure of the Rebellion would occupy the most important position.

3 Joined The New Jedi Order

Leia wasn''t the only one who was busy following the Empire''s defeat. While Leia is focused on politics, Luke is also preparing to restore the Jedi Order. It''s a long, difficult process with its fair share of disappointments. For her part, Leia is initially hesitant to embrace her Force potential, but is unsure of whether or not to be Darth Vader''s daughter.

Despite the fact that as the years pass, Leia decides to become a Jedi. Moreover, her three children, Jacen, Jaina, and Anakin, both become Jedi. After years of training, Leia became an accomplished practitioner of the Force and a valued member of the New Jedi Order.

Two players played a role in Grand Admiral Thrawn''s death.

Thrawn, one of the Empire''s most powerful and dazzling military tacticians, briefly managed to assemble many of the squabbling Imperial Warlords in a new confrontation against the New Republic. Thrawn, however, was assassinated by his Noghri bodyguard while at the height of his power.

The Noghri once pledged their loyalty to Darth Vader, who tricked them into believing the Empire would assist them in rebuilding their home planet. Subsequently, Leia served him as Vader''s successor, and dutifully served him. When Leia fell into the clutches of the Noghri, they discovered that she was Darth Vader''s daughter.

Leia revealed the Empire''s deception to the Noghri and convinced them to join the New Republic. Thrawn''s bodyguard, Rukh, murdered Thrawn by stabbing him in the chest, which is evidently critical.
