In Elden Ring, Grafted Scion is a field boss. It is the first boss you will encounter and a very difficult one to defeat. This huge massive of grafted bodies will appear multiple times throughout the game as a regular adversary. Here''s all you need to know about Grafted Scion.

Grafted Scion makes its first appearance in Chapel of Anticipation, which is the game''s tutorial area. The boss is optional, and facing it will not affect any ending in the game whatsoever. It can be beneficial to you because of the high number of souls you will receive and can use to level up your stats.

If you want to start your NG+ run, then you will find the boss easier as soon as you have access to multiple Flasks and, most likely, a maxed-out weapon. This will allow you to deal massive damage to the boss in NG+ and smooth the battle. Using good Blood weapons will make the boss bleeding relatively quicker, causing it to lose a large amount of health.

Grafted Scion Attacks

Considering that the game''s tutorial boss has a lot of attacks and moves patterns.

Grafted Scion Attacks

Shield Slam

The boss raises its shield and then debunked it swiftly.

Roll toward either side of the counter or back.

Crawling strays

Grafted Scion sits up and starts stabbing the ground in the air, attempting to smash down its shield and swords on the player.

Counter: You may slam away and keep walking around the boss until it stops the animation. Dodge the leap by ruffling to one side.

5-Hit Strikes

With both swords, the boss performs a lengthy 5-Hit strike on the player. It is common that the boss takes a break after two hits.

Counter: Rebound from or go towards the left side. Dodge towards the boss to the left side when it comes towards you and counter with a few hits.

Scream

The boss starts to scream, causing damage to the player and disrupting the guard.

During this attack, stay away from the boss.

Stance

Grafted Scion rises into a position after using Golden Tempering to its swords. It can then perform a spinning slash or forward thrusts.

Counter: If the spinning slash starts, you will have to maneuver around the boss, and for thrusts, you will have to dodge towards the boss to one side. A quick return can be made as the thrust starts.

General Strategy

The general goal here is to keep your distance from the boss at all times. When you know you will not be punished for your counterattack, you may hit between the 5-Hit Strikes and the Crawling Stabs. Generally, the best chance to counterattack the boss would be during the 5-Hit Strikes and the Crawling Stabs. You must wait until the boss completes the jump thrust and perform a jumping heavy attack.

If you are from a ranged class, then you should be more comfortable staying away from the boss. However, you can not only rely on your sorceries, because after a few casts, your FP will become zero, and you will need to go in and fight it.

If you are traveling from the Four Belfries, this fight should not pose much threat whatsoever. One or two flasks will allow your damage output to be significant due to how underleveled the boss. However, remember that some of the times when you encounter the boss, it will be in different appearances at first and will change its appearance.

General Tips

  • Wait for the 5-Hit Strikes attack and counterattack with one or two hits after its animation.
  • Try to keep your distance throughout the fight and avoid jumping attacks.
  • Do not get greedy, as you will not have any Flasks if it is your first try.
  • When returning, your level will not matter as you will be overleveled no matter.
