Loki and The Essex Serpent are seen in strange fuzzies by Tom Hiddleston ...

The Essex Serpent, a Nokia TV+ series starring Tom Hiddleston, has premiered today(May 13), and the action will be the actor''s first significant role since playing the titular character in Marvel''s hit show Loki.

Cora Seaborne, who travels from London to Essex and researches the "mythical beast" known as the Essex Serpent, is also playing Homeland''s Claire Danes.

Hiddleston will portray local community spiritual leader Will Ransome, who describes the serpent as a unique opportunity and symptom of the times they''re living in. However, increasingly supernatural events begin to occur, and local people appear to be possessed.

Before its release, Hiddleston has opened up exclusively to Digital Spy about some of the similarities between Loki and Will Ransome.

"Well, yes, the God of Mischief to a Man of God. I loved it," he said. "There''s an interesting I found really strange kind of similarities between them. However, Loki is a sort of incarnation of chaos.

Will is a much more responsible, much more attentive, and more solid when you meet him. He''s someone who, I believe, is trying to maintain his community in a manner of nature to keep him calm."

He talked about how he enjoyed being a part of the two characters so closely together as Loki had concluded in December 2020, while The Essex Serpent began filming in February 2021.

"I really loved doing both of them back to back. They were fantastically different in different ways," said the author.

For a second season, Hiddleston will play as the God of Mischief, with production scheduled to begin on June 6 in London. Like all MCU projects, the narrative has been kept under wraps, and Hiddleston himself was not prepared to provide us any idea of what we can expect.

"Well, the story continues, and everyone who watched the first series will know that there were many questions that need to be answered. Keep an eye on this space. It''s time to tell."

Season 1 of Loki is streaming on Disney+. Season 2 has been officially confirmed.

The Essex Serpent has released its first two episodes on Friday, May 13, on Apple TV+, before launching a weekly show on Fridays.
