Prior to his death, Norm Macdonald shot a secret Netflix special, 'Norm Macdonald: Nothing Special.' ...

Norm Macdonald, a Saturday Night Live performer, was an old-fashioned comedian who preferred to throw out humorous anecdotes and humorous asides without going too far from his professional life. Even his own memoir, Based on a True Story, was only a one-on-one insight into the actor''s life when it was announced that Macdonald died in September, at the age of 61, following a lengthy illness. And even months later, we''re still discovering long-k

Macdonald wanted to keep the surprises coming, according to Lori Jo Hoekstra, Macdonald''s long-time producer. Specifically, the Dirty Work star/writer shot one final, secret stand-up special in his living room in the summer of 2020. The ailing comedian was preparing for a new Netflix comedy hour when he needed to go to the hospital, and the test results were poor. He wanted to "get this on tape just in case as he put it things went south."

Norm Macdonald receives a rebuttal from the SNL Weekend Update.

Norm Macdonald: Nothing Special will be available on Netflix on May 30th. While Netflix has become a popular stand-up feature, nothing Special might be a major feature for comedy in general. Even Bo Burnham: Inside, from 2021, does not seem to be a proper comparison to this secret recording.

Here''s what Hoekstra explains about this last Macdonald film:

No one has heard of any similarity to this [situation] near me... It makes me so happy that I can share it with him. He did it because he loved his material and was so proud of his abilities. He did it so well, and it really would''ve ered him to do everything he did and not been able to show everybody. He did it for the stand-up. I just hope that people appreciate that he did this.

Along with Norm''s final hour, the program will include clips from the recent Netflix Is a Joke Fest, where Adam Sandler, Conan O''Brien, Dave Chapelle, David Letterman, David Spade, and Molly Shannon discuss the late comedian-collaborator and his unsavory comedic legacy. This month, the conversation began.

Macdonald always knew how to surprise people, whether it be with a punchline, a poignant thinking line, or his untimely death, and this unidentified special is merely a one-off example if it is still the last.

On Netflix, Norm Macdonald: Nothing Special will be released on May 30th.
