Zac Efron on 'Firestarter': Doing His First Horror Movie and Playing a Dad for the First Time ...

Zac Efrons has been working non-stop for about two decades, but even with dozens of titles to his name, hes yet to tackle a horror film. Ryan Kiera Armstrong, on the other hand, is only 12-years-old and has already been part of two major horror films, the IT films and also the American Horror Story.

The two play Charlie, a young girl with pyrokinetic abilities who is being targeted by a nefarious federal agency as she grows older. However, no matter how dangerous things get, her father Andy (Zac Efron) is always available to do whatever it takes to protect her, even if it means abandoning traditional methods.

With Firestarter coming to theaters and Peacock on May 13th, I got the opportunity to chat with Efron and Armstrong about their experience in filming, beginning with why it now felt like the appropriate time for Efron to jump into horror. Here''s what he said:

I have always wanted to do one. I think there were a few nice things. A, this is Stephen King, but then Keith Thomas, the filmmaker, he did a fantastic film called The Vigil that I saw several years ago and I have just become a fan of his. I thought this was a really, really great story. It was the origin of sort of a superman coming into her [Ryan] and it was wonderful.

Even at such a young age, Armstrong is evidently oozing with knowledge-how and raw ability, but those had to imagine that someone with so much experience like Efron still needs to take it. Here''s what Armstrong said when asked if she saw Efron do anything on set that she appreciated:

He was extremely helpful and caring in the moment. And it is amazing to work off a person who is doing that, and it''s really incredible to watch.

Efron wasnt letting that compliment pass him by without throwing one right back on Armstrongs way. He told her, I got that same sentiment from you. Huh, I must get on my game!
