With Top Gun: Maverick, spectators can return to Naval aircrafts in less than two weeks. The sequel will make a remarkable comeback for the action star to the title, which became an iconic 80s film and an important moment for Maverick. With a few sweet throwback pictures, Cruise celebrated Top Gun Day.

Tom Cruise took to Instagram to commemorate the Top Gun national day with two photos of himself and Jerry Bruckheimer, who has been a leading producer to both movies. Check them out:

A photo of a photographer has been posted on the internet.

In the caption, the actor said he couldn''t ask for a better wingman in Jerry Bruckheimer while sharing two pictures of the pair from both films. Both images are over thirty years apart and show off just how heroic the filmmakers have been in telling Pete Maverick Mitchell''s story.

The first Top Gun movie depicts Anthony Edwards Goose, but he unfortunately (and famously) died over the course of the 1986 film. The upcoming sequel will follow Maverick all these years later, with Val Kilmers Iceman returning to the game. Miles Teller, Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm, Glen Powell, and Lewis Pullman will also play with Monica Barbaro, among other actors.

National Top Gun Day was designated as May 13, but this year marks the 36th anniversary of the film''s release in 1986. When the now-classic film was first released, it debuted at No. 1 ahead of becoming the greatest-grossing film of the year in over five years. Crocodile Dundee, The Karate Kid Part II, and Aliens.

The sequel, which began filming back in 2010, with Tony Scott, who died two years later by suicide as the film location investigation was started. It wasnt until 2017 that the film was put off the ground again, with director Joseph Kosinski taking charge. The film, filmed between mid 2018 and mid 2019, has planned its first release in summer 2019.

The film was delayed for the first time to allow the production to execute its complicated flight sequences, but then COVID happened and it was delayed several times to ensure a theatrical release. This time around, Tom Cruise, Jerry Bruckheimer, and other companies are quite pleased of what they have accomplished, and it''ll be fun to come back to the screen once more with this iconic franchise.

Check out how to get the original 1986 film on your birthday and get excited for it.
