Jurassic World: Dominion will unveil the decades-old franchises'' first openly LGBTQ character, as confirmed by movie co-star DeWanda Wise. Wise will play pilot Kayla Watts in the new film alongside franchise stars Bryce Dallas Howard as Claire Dearing and Chris Pratt as Owen Grady.
Wise, who has recently spoken out to ComicBook.com about the importance of representation in tentpole blockbusters and said Kayla was genuine bisexual and would be depicted as such.
It''s important to me that we continue to expand the conversation beyond looking for the kiss. I said it all the time. It doesn''t matter if your partners are in the cockpit with you. So that was one of the things just in Kayla''s DNA, and that''s just, it''s what it is.
Following 2018''s Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, the franchise faced a hefty backlash when it discovered that Daniella Pinedas'' character Dr. Zia Rodriguez was discovered to be homosexual in a scene that ended up on the cutting room floor ostensibly for reasons of time, but perhaps because the revelation was so evidently ham-handed.
The reason for the decrease was because it wasn''t present to the story. Despite being fair, there are far better ways to reveal a lesbian character than by showing their respect to a person. Finally, Dr. Zia gay Rodriguez is in a wheelchair.
Wises Watts will have a little more respect and the ability to exist.
Wise will not only join Pratt and Howard, but also join the cast of the original cast played by Sam Elliot, Laura Dern, B.D. Wong, and Jeff Goldblum.
On June 10, the Jurassic World Dominion will be available in theaters.
