One of the greatest things that Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness did was that it included a number of popular comic book characters in the MCU, if only briefly. Now, lead screenwriter Michael Waldron is talking about some of the scenes that sparked interest, especially when it comes to the Illuminati scene.
Over the course of the film, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness offered quite a few appearances, but fans have always been talking about those things ever since the film premiered. Fortunately, some fans discovered that there was an empty chair among the tribunal.
Waldron talked to The Hollywood Reporter about a number of topics including Doctor Strange 2, and that included just what the empty chair meant. However, as it turns out, it''s not entirely clear why there was an empty chair in the scene at all. This is not because there were any important information to keep, but because he simply wasn''t told or unable to figure out exactly what the answers should be.
When asked if the chair was intended to indicate that someone was supposed to be there who wasn''t, he replied. "That''s also an unanswered question, but we talked about it a lot," he said. When asked if or not the chair was supposed to be "open ended," he played coy, claiming it was a bit of both.
This may mean that what was started in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness might not be over yet. Off the surface, the post-credits scene indicates that the at least one other film will include some universe hopping. Waldron is joking about the additional chair for the next film.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is now playing in theaters.
