The Disney sequel, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, fell by 81% on its second Friday, after making $16.7 million. This has been expected to reach 67 percent on the weekend, which is expected to be in the $65 million range. The film has opened to $187.4 million last weekend.

Doctor Strange 2 has surpassed $550 million worldwide in just over a week, and will surpass the $300 million mark in the next few days. By contrast, the first Doctor Strange sold $232 million worldwide, and ended its worldwide run with $677 million. The sequel to Spider-Man: No Way Home, which featured Benedict Cumberbatch in a pivotal role, is playing, as expected.

No Way Home, which fell by 67.5% in its second weekend, was a Sony release. Doctor Strange 2''s impressive box office performance should give Disney a much-needed boost, despite being unable to perform previously in the epidemic. Despite its impressive success in 2021, Doctor Strange 2 has already eclipsed the lifetime totals of each of these titles: Black Widow, Shang-Chi, and the Legend of the Ten Rings and Eternals.

The Bad Guys, a kid-friendly heist film from Universals, was on to the number two spot on its fourth Friday. The film will finish the weekend with $6.6 million, which is expected to total $66 million.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 held its number three position with $1.03 million on its sixth Friday. Its estimated $4.25 million weekend would increase its total income to $175 million, which should have Paramount grinning from ear to ear. The studio has had a fantastic year in 2022, and has already begun a sequel and a spinoff to Sonic the Hedgehog.

The only major new wide release, Firestarter, which was directed by Keith Thomas, was at the top of the list for the weekend. However, unlike the Stephen King adaptation, Firestarter has been plagued by critics. However, Universal has given it a day-and-date release on the Peacock streaming service. Firestarter should finish its first weekend with an estimated $3.57 million.

The top 5 included Everything Everywhere at once, the worst word-of-mouth hit. With $917,000 on its eighth Friday, the film edged out Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, who scored an estimated $3.1 million for the third weekend in a row.

Doctor Strange 2 will dominate the box office until next weeks Downton Abbey: A New Era. However, it will perform flawlessly on Memorial Day weekend, in the form of Top Gun: Maverick.
