The first look images for Season 3 of Apple TV+ alternate-history series For All Mankind take us straight to Mars, according to EW. Together with the new photographs, For All Mankind co-creators, Matt Wolpert and Ben Nedivi, discussed the relationship between the series and the current geopolitical patterns.
For All Mankind, based on Nedivi, Wolpert, and Ronald D. Moore, explores an alternate timeline where the Soviet Union, and not the United States, ruled out the moon. This change snowballs in a world where the space race never ended, and where the Cold War gained strength rather than losing it. The first season of the show reveals how Season 3 will bring astronauts to Mars in the middle of the 1990s.
The first look images also tease the return of the series'' recurring cast members, with Jodi Balfours Ellen becoming a US Senator after previous seasons of NASA. Other guests include Shantel VanSanten, Sonya Walger, Krys Marshall, Cynthy Wu, Casey Johnson, and Coral Pena. Season 3 is also introducing Edi Gathegi as a new visionary.
Together with the first look photographs, Wolpert and Nedivi discussed how their alternate history series is starting to reflect recent events. While the Cold War was a distant event to younger generations who watch the series, the war in Ukraine re-enlivered the political divide between Russia and the United States. Besides that, the renewed desire for space exploration sparked several private rocket launches in the last couple of years, which makes the new developments of the show more credible. As Nedivi declares,
When we saw this notion of a Cold War, it became quite beneficial to our younger viewers, and the notion that by season 3, it''s more relevant than ever is fascinating also when it comes to the space race, the renewed interest in NASA''s missions to Mars, and even some of the locations on the moon and Mars that we''ve explored in real time. We''re seeing footage that''s returning from Mars the colors and the texture, the rocks, and we''re integrating that into the show constantly as it progresses further
The first two seasons of For All Mankind are now available on Apple TV+. The third season of Season 3 will premiere on Friday, June 10. Check out the first look photographs below.
