The surviving squaddies merge in a throwback set picture from The Suicide Squad ...

As the production of his next and potentially last Marvel film wraps on, James Gunn has shared a back-facing picture from his first DC film. Before returning to the House of Ideas to direct Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which just finished filming earlier this month, Gunn crossed over to the Distinguished Competition to direct The Suicide Squad, a standalone sequel to David Ayers 2016.

The result was easily one of the most widely accepted DCEU entries to date. Although it failed to light up the box office, critics and fans alike appreciated TSS'' irreverent tone, but also the way Gunn encouraged us to care about its oddball character, meaning we mourned those who died in the battle against Starro the Conqueror and cheered on those who made it to the credits alive.

Gunn is depicted in this newly revealed set photo posing with three of the surviving Task Force X-ers, as well as one that fans wish had survived. On the Jotunheim lot with [the Suicide Squad], Gunn was used as a caption to the image, which also includes Daniela Melchior (Ratcatcher II), Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), David Dastmalchian (Polka-Dot Man) and Idris Elba.

Despite being four of the most famous movies alongside King Shark, there are still a few of these guys in the DCEU to date. Gunn is working on a second season of Peacemaker, which managed to transform John Cenas into a fan-favorite himself, as well as a spinoff for Viola Davis Amanda Waller.

As Peacemaker continues, Chris Smith might re-recruit Bloodsport and his friends in her own show. And, hopefully, Margot Robbie can re-recruit some DC executives arm into giving us the Harley/Poison Ivy romcom we all want. For the time being, you may stream The Suicide Squad on HBO Max.
