When I married a Filipina, I did not marry her. I have certainly grown out of her family, but I have certainly adopted something significant, not just for myself, but for my two children. I want them to be both black and Filipino. In this way, I am well acquainted with Filipino food, Filipino dishes, and, of course, Filipino actors.
Because you know what you know and love who are Filipinos. I would be sorry if I was talking about Jo Koy and his fantastic comedy specials, because if you''re Filipino, then you''re likely familiar with Jo Koy. And, with him now mentioned, here are seven excellent Filipino actors, and where to watch them.
Dave Bautista - Guardians of the Galaxy
Every great wrestler might be a strong actor, according to I''ve always believed. Dwayne Johnson''s best known for his movies now, but for a while, wrestling enthusiasts were on the edge of their seats for him every week when he played The Rock. And, for a moment, Dave Bautista was able to go by Batista while he was still wrestling in the WWE. He is now a bearer of biraciality.
Bautisa has been in a slew of notable scenes lately, including his brief (but substantial) role in Dune, his leading role in Army of the Dead, and many others. Unlike him, he is certainly best known as Drax the Destroyer in the Guardians of the Galaxy series. Despite his appearance, this third film will be the last time we see Bautista play Drax, but you may still see him in Volumes 1 and 2.

Lea Salonga - Mulan
Lea Salonga, who was portrayed in both the original West End production as well as the eventual Broadway version, is a fact that she was the first Asian actress to ever receive a Tony Award. She was also the first Asian actress to portray Eponine and Fantine in Les Miserables, so her theater reputation is well established.
Most Disney fans will likely hear her vocals from both the original Princess Jasmine and Fa Mulan from the animated versions of Aladdin and Mulan, respectively. However, when I think of my favorite Disney songs, I usually hear them in the voice of Lea Salongas, and I know that Im not alone.

Dante Basco - Avatar: The Last Airbender
Dante Basco, who plays Romeo in Steven Spielberg''s Moonwalker, though his first film was actually as Romeo, in Michael Jackson''s Moonwalker, which is a film that shattered me as a child), was introduced in Hook, however, as Rufio, the leader of the Lost Boys, and (spoiler alert!) his fate was also sabotaged me as a child.
I believe that he is probably most commonly known today as Zuko from Avatar: The Last Airbender. Some of the best episodes of Avatar feature Zuko, and they wouldnt be as good as Basco did with his entire spectrum of emotions. In every way, Dante Basco brought the heart and soul to Avatar: The Last Airbender, and I would not have it anywhere else.
Netflix is streaming Avatar: The Last Airbender.
Vanessa Hudgens - Tick, TickBOOM!
Vanessa Hudgens, who plays lead singer, has also grown into a Filipina, her late father was an Irish, French, and Native American girl, although she is now a biracial member of the Academy. She has been in a number of other popular movies such as Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, Spring Breakers, and was even in the DC sitcom, Powerless, so she has a large range.
Vanessa Hudgens in tick, tick...BOOM!, as she was a wonderful person as Jonathan Larson (played by Andrew Garfield) and a performer in his plays. Through her acting and singing, she demonstrated once again what she is capable of.

Lou Diamond Phillips - Longmire
Lou Diamond Phillips was born in the Philippines by a Filipina mother and an American father of Scotch-Irish Cherokee descent. He rose to superstardom when he played Ritchie Valens in La Bamba back in 1987, but one year later he played the troubled youth, Angel Guzman, in the classic school film Stand and Deliver. He has acted almost always.
I wanted to focus on Longmire''s involvement in the long-running show. Phillips plays Cheyenne and Henry Standing Bear, who runs a bar and is Longmire''s best friend. Phillips gives him the kind of confidence he could acquire, bringing him back to life in a way that is both ancient and fresh.

Tia Carrere - Lilo & Stitch
Tia Carrere was born in Hawaii, but her lineage is Filipino. Ill always loved her for her work in the two Waynes World movies as Cassandra Wong, but she has had a long career in both movies and television, including the soap opera General Hospital, the comedy High School High, and the James Cameron action film True Lies.
As Nani''s older sister is completely stressed, Tia Carrere is just trying to keep her little family together. Plus, the arrangement in Hawaii has shaped Carrere''s birth place. Just remember, Ohana means family.

Jacob Batalon - Let It Snow
I wanted to highlight Jacob Batalon, who when I asked my wife for resources to explain for this article, said, Little Spider-Man. When she put her on the page, she said, "You know, Little Spider-Man." And yes, Jacob Batalon is a Filipino singer who plays Ned Leeds in the Spider-Man movies.
I decided to focus on Keon''s role in the Netflix romantic comedy Let It Snow, which is based on a YA novel. In it, Batalon plays a famous employee named Keon at a diner called Waffle Town. Its an ensemble cast, and everything leads to a big party that he throws together. It''s a fun little holiday film, and Jacob Batalon is a highlight.
Let It Snow is available on Netflix.
