What Are David Tennant and Catherine Tate Really Filming for Doctor Who's 60th Anniversary?

What Are David Tennant and Catherine Tate Really Filming for Doctor Who's 60th Anniversary? ...

The rumors were true. After weeks of not-quite-denials and anti-couldness from David Tennant and Catherine Tate, the BBC has officially confirmed their return to Doctor Who: One of the most loved connections in Doctor Who''s history has reunited and is filming scenes that will be released in 2023 as part of the 60th anniversary celebrations.

When the Doctor wiped Donna''s memory, makingherforget him, to save her, and left her family with a warning: If ever she remembers, she will die. But with the two coming face to face once more, the big question is, just what brings the Doctor and Donna back together?

Note the caption above: scenes, coincide with, celebrations plural. There is no indication in the press release that Tennant and Tate will appear as guest stars in a single 60th anniversary special episode alongside the new 14th Doctor Ncuti Gatwa.

The Day of the Doctor was celebrated as part of the 50th anniversary, but there were two mini-episodes The Night of the Doctor and The Last Day, both of which were later released as part of the anniversary date. Could it be that the Tenth Doctor and Donna are returning to film supplemental episodes rather than appearing in a single special?

Russell T Davies, a returning showrunner, muddies the water even further:

Itlooksimpossiblefirst, we announce a new Doctor, and then an old Doctor, along with Donna, what on earth is happening? Perhaps this is the amissingstory. Oradream, or a trick, or a flashback. The only thing I can confirm is that its going to bespectacular, as two of our greatest stars reunite for the battle of a lifetime.

A missing story, a parallel world, a dream, a trick, or a flashback Intriguing options all. At least the release officially uses Tennant and Tates character names, but there does seem to be any of the obfuscation that prompted Billie Piper''s return for her 50th anniversary episode, to keep the surprise that Piper wasn''t playing Rose Tyler, but a manifestation of The Moment alongside John Hurts'' War Doctor.

When is the Anniversary?

The actual diamond anniversary of the shows is Thursday the 23rd of November 2023, but as Doctor Who has traditionally aired on Saturday and in the Chibnall/Whittaker era, Sunday nights, there''s a possibility that whatevers being filmed to commemorate the occasion will air either before (18th/19th November) or after (25th/26th November).

Where Will the Anniversary Celebrations Air?

The Day of the Doctor, directed by John Hurt, Billie Piper, and David Tennant, was explored in 3D, with a jokey skit, starring the Eleventh and Tenth Doctors, before being joined by the War Doctor. The episode was then created.

Director Rumours

In May 2022, British director Edgar Wright (Last Night in Soho, Hot Fuzz, and Shaun of the Dead) was reportedly reportedly going behind the camera for Doctor Who''s 60th anniversary, but later described the rumours as false on Twitter.

As soon as the anniversary announcement hits this page, please update it accordingly.

In autumn 2022, Doctor Who will be reunited with BBC One and BBC America with Jodie Whittakers'' final episode.
