In the era of acquisitions, when video game companies are supposedly being snatched up at will, Take-Two has made a prediction about the possibility of further acquisitions. In the wake of Take-Two''s acquisition of Zynga, the CEO has expressed his concern about whether the company might be acquired by a larger company.
Earlier this year, Take-Two approved a $12.7 billion contract to acquire Zynga, a mobile game developer, as the second largest acquisition in the video game industry. It consists of Microsoft''s acquisition of Activision Blizzard, which includes publishers Rockstar Games and 2K. In an interview, take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick discussed the current situation of Take-Two and the possibility that the company may be swept up by someone bigger.
Take-Two is unlikely to be acquired right now. Zelnick claims that at the moment, Take-Two has been an independent corporation with no idea where to go. He also claimed that Take-Two has no desire to succeed in an acquisition. He also suggested that any acquisition along the way would be considered a part of a selective process with the aim of bringing great IPs and great teams into the fold.
Zelnick said that Take-Two''s house developer Private Division would acquire Roll7, a British game developer who is known for OlliOlli. It was also argued that the mobile market would be a factor in Take-Two moving forward.
Zelnick spoke with IGN about his ongoing fan frustration over Red Dead Online''s actual state. Several players believe Red Dead Online won''t get the attention that it deserves from Rockstar Games. He also talked about the recent news that EA is ending its relationship with FIFA following the release of FIFA 23.
Take-Two Interactive''s next major console release is The Quarry, which will be released on June 10th.
