Fortnite is a title that is still at the forefront of interest as a result of its extensive set of updates. Fortnite is again changing things up with its v20.40 update, which introduces the Sideways Showdown Week, and makes numerous performance improvements across different platforms.
The ever-popular free-to-play battle royale title will be in the final few weeks of Fortnite''s v20.30 update, with Command Cavern and The Fortress being brought to the game. Today is also the last day Star Wars weapons will be available. Lightsabers and E-11 Blaster Rifles will be available.
Sideways Showdown Week, a game changer, has been launched. This week, Fortnite''s Sideways weapons have been unveiled, but they have not used regular ammo, instead, completing a cooldown process that has an infinite amount of shots. While the Sideways Rifle and Sideways Minigun have made their return, the fan-favorite Sideways Scythe appears to be rejected. Benches may be taken to the game.
Fortnite v20.40''s second major component is the availability of next-generation consoles. Epic has stated that input latency on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S have decreased significantly, but the PS5''s improvements go far further. Additionally, PS5 players can now enable 120fps within Fortnite''''s settings rather than altering the console setting itself. They can now earn V-Bucks on any platform, and use them when they are logged in to any other platform.
The new Fortnite has officially begun the island''s next item vote. Players must choose between voting for the mobility-enhancing Balloons or the handy vehicle/squad defensive barrier in the Shield Bubble. As with all previous item votes, players must do so with Gold Bars, with the first to get full funding added straight into the current loot pool. Other changes include a permanent increase in utility items like Shockwave Grenades, Rift-To-Gos, and Cow Catchers in Zero Build
The update is that there is no formal confirmation process for a specific location, as has been the usual practice of the previous several upgrades. With only a few weeks left until the start of Fortnite Chapter 3, it should be interesting to see what Epic has in store for a finale.
Fortnite is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
