The Sandman, the upcoming live-action adaptation of Neil Gaiman''s critically-acclaimed comic book, has been released by Netflix. While the Netflix series hasn''t yet announced the date for the release, the new images focus on two of the adaptation''s main characters: Tom Sturridge as Dream, and Gwendoline Christie as Lucifer.
In The Sandman comic books, the first image shows Dream with open arms while the world around him crumbles into ruins. The caption I reach out my substance, and I shape the world is a direct nod to how Dream can influence dreams and nightmares with his will alone, controlling the human connection with creativity, imagination, and repressed feelings. The second image demonstrates Lucifer Morningstar, who is ultimately forced to abandon their post.
The Sandman follows Dream''s struggles, one of the seven immortal beings known as the Endless, who guide humanity''s lives from their mystical realms. The series also features three other Endless. The first is Death (Kirby Howell-Baptiste), a young adult who is always patient and optimistic in comic books. Finally, Desire (Donna Preston) is a personification of dread, known for showing her eyes when people who are on the verge of giving up.
The Sandman''s first season will focus on the film, Volume 1: Preludes & Nocturnes, a collection of comic book books that follow Dreams'' capture by a militia in the early 1900s, and his subsequent escape a century later. Gwendoline Christie, Boyd Holbrook, Donna Preston, and Joely Richardson, along with Kyo Ra, Stephen Fry, Razane Jammal, and Patton Oswalt both appeared.
The Sandman is one of the highlights of this years Netflix Geek Week event, so we should be getting a full trailer and maybe a release date between June 6 and June 10. So far, nothing we know about The Sandman is planned to premiere sometime in 2022. Check out the latest images below.
