In June 2022, there will be 18 exceptional films to watch ...

June is on the calendar, and the summer is finally here, and it''s getting hotter across the country. It''s also getting hotter on streaming services, where a group of new films have been added to platforms like Netflix (here is a complete list), Hulu, HBO Max, and Prime Video.

Which of the best new features from those streaming services? That''s what we had here for. Weve reviewed each platform new offerings and selected a few more for you, dear reader.

These are plenty to dig into this month, from rowdy comedy to pensive comedy, musclebound action to legal thrillers. In June 2022, here are 18 of the best movies to watch.

Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy

In the slick, male-dominated field of local news journalism, Adam McKays 2004 comedy Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy stars Will Ferrell as the eponymous newsman from San Diego and blowhard.

McKays'' film is a wickedly funny show of male chauvinism and 70s culture, complete with absurdist gags, endlessly quotable lines, and fantastic breakout performances by Paul Rudd, Steve Carell, and David Koechner. Not to mention one hell of a back-alley street brawl. Toussaint Egan

Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy is now available on Netflix.

Cinema Paradiso

Film Paradiso, based in Italy, recalls his childhood in a small cinema house in post-World War II, his friendship with Alfredo (Philippe Noiret). From the early days of his youth, his fateful homecoming to town has greatly changed, making cinema a moving, melancholic experience.

Cinema Paradiso is now available on the Criterion Channel.

Daybreakers

Daybreakers is a multibillion-dollar adventure set in a new decade in which human history has been overtaken by a population of immortal vampires. With stunning lighting, intense action, and stunning performances from Hawke, Willem Dafoe, and Sam Neill, Ethan Hawke is a regular star in the film.

Daybreakers is available on HBO Max.

Double Indemnity

Billy Wilders'' classic film noir, often considered one of the finest American films ever, has finally returned to streaming. The film stars Barbara Stanwyck as a femme fatale accused of killing her husband, Fred MacMurray, as an insurance investigator, and Edward G. Robinson as an insurance investigator looking into the incident. A legendary film, directed by one of his greatest filmmakers, and co-written by Raymond Chandler, is simply too good to pass up. Pete Volk

On the Criterion Channel, Double Indemnity is available for download.

The Firm

Tom Cruise stars in the 1993 legal thriller The Firm as Mitch McDeere, an ambitious Harvard Law graduate who accepts a generous offer from a small but prestigious law firm in Memphis, Tennessee. When the suspicious deaths of four of the companies associates arouse his suspicions, Mitch discovers a dark side to his dream job (Jeanne Tripplehorn) out of an absolute danger from poverty. Aside from being a superb thriller with taut pacing and excellent lead performances by Cruise, Tripple

The Firm is available on HBO Max for download.

The Grand Budapest Hotel

The Grand Budapest Hotel, one of Wes Anderson''s finest works, is equally a touching coming-of-age story, an uproarious ensemble comedy, and a confrontation between a director and his distinctive style.

The concierge (Ralph Fiennes) is renowned for his attention to detail and desire to woo the hotels'' older guests. When he is framed for the murder of one of his lovers (Tilda Swinton), he does something with the help of lobbyist Zero (Tony Revolori), who is also falling head-over-heels in love with a local bakers apprentice (Saoirse Ronan). The fascist regime has wachsen and spreads around

The Grand Budapest Hotel, which features a large cast, as well as Willem Dafoe as a sinister hitman and Harvey Keitel as the leader of a prison gang, is comfortable filming. However, there''s a deeper connection here for those who want it: Anderson''s style often evokes a past romanticization, although the past was very much not romantic for many people around the world. Grand Budapest directs with it, bringing the horror of fascism directly into this nostalgic

The Grand Budapest Hotel is now available on HBO Max.

In the Mouth of Madness

John Carpenters 1994 supernatural horror film is one of the finest in his storied career, with a spooky tale about scary storytelling that is the basis of his unofficial Apocalypse Trilogy, along with The Thing and Prince of Darkness. Sam Neill is an insurance investigator who is hired to track down Sutter Cane, an ultra-popular supernatural horror author who has gone missing.

Neills John Trent is amazed to learn about Cane''s latest book, titled In the Mouth of Madness. When Trent takes Cane to a small town in New Hampshire, he discovers himself in the fictional town that is the setting for many of the Canes books.

In the Mouth of Madness, a dazzling horror film anchored by an unforgettable performance from Neill, completes a stellar thematic trilogy of films. PV

On Shudder, In the Mouth of Madness is available.

Miami Vice

This year, Michael Mann returned to the world that he helped launch his career with this fantastic 2006 adaptation of the 1980s television series he produced. This time around, Colin Farrell plays Crockett and Jamie Foxx is Tubbs. When they are sent on an undercover mission as a result of a drug sting, things get personal.

Although it received mixed reviews at the time, Miami Vice has gained a reevaluation in the years preceding. Manns'' unique approach to digital cinematography is on full display here, and the sharp tones and digital texture are a perfect match for the beautiful Miami scenery. Both the theatrical version and the extended directors cut are now available for your home viewing. PV

Miami Vice is now available on HBO Max.

Mission: Impossible and Mission: Impossible 2

Two master filmmakers make two bangers for one of Hollywood movie franchises that have long been successful. Yes, two. Haters, move on!

The film, directed by Brian De Palma (The Untouchables), is a tightly-planned conspiracy thriller with a young Tom Cruise at his most extreme. The twists and turns are appealing, but two things differ from this one: 1) the now ultra-famous and oft-mimicked vault scene where Cruise hangs from the ceiling, and 2) the endearing relationship between Cruise and Ving Rhames that has continued many films on.

This is the second film, which was unveiled after being directed by Hong Kong action director John Woo (Hard Boiled). Cruise and Thandiwe Newton have electric chemistry from their first scene together, including a spectacular sequence at a party in Seville, which culminates in a huge John Woo moment. In the film, dramatic scenes like this can feel uncomfortably serenously. PV

Mission: Impossible and Mission: Impossible 2 are now available on Netflix.

Predator

Predators'' reputation precedes itself, but every aspect of it is earned. While it may be best known for some of the memes it has spawned, its also one of Hollywood''s finest science fiction films.

This film by John McTiernan (Die Hard) chronicles an elite group of soldiers who are sent to a rainforest in Central America on a kid-rescue mission. While there, the group is hunted by the extremely dangerous Predator, a deadly alien with advanced technology.

Predator is genre film excellence with excellent creature design, an immersively frightening atmosphere, a moving supporting performance by Bill Duke, and plenty of fun to watch (see: muscles); Predator and The Running Man are two films that will feature future governors Schwarzenegger and Jesse Ventura. PV

On Hulu, Predator is available.

Spider-Man 2

Spider-Man 2 is just one of the most amazing superhero movies ever made. Set two years after the events of the original film, Tobey Maguire reprises his role as the web-slinging costumed vigilante as he confronts his former mentor, Dr. Otto Octavius (Alfred Molina), without sacrificing his character''s character. Spider-Man 2 is a purported adventure, based on a real story about the struggles, obstacles, and consequences of everyday heroism

Spider-Man 2 is out now on Peacock.

Top Gun

Top Gun: Maverick is out in theaters, and the Polygons review prefers it to the original. However, there''s no better time to catch up with the first Tony Scotts summer blockbuster. Tom Cruises'' first turn as Pete Maverick Mitchell aided him to become a worldwide success, and his performance, the award-winning soundtrack, and the breathtaking beach volleyball scene keep Top Gun fresh ten years later. PV

Prime Video will include Top Gun.

The Twilight movies

The Twilight movies were all about a moment in popular American cinema, from the corny moments of 2008s Twilight to the tragic two-parter Breaking Dawn. The first is a classic American sports film, but the series is also a time capsule: of legendary actors before they would become superstars, and of a coming-of-age story that was crucial to a whole generation of young people growing up in the late 2000s. The Twilight movies are available on Prime Video for download.
