Datamine from Sonic Origins Teases The Origins of A Sonic Frontier Returning Character ...

Happy 31st birthday to the blue blur! Sonic the Hedgehog has altered and changed tons over the years, and the next step in his journey Sonic Frontiers is making some of the franchise''s biggest changes yet. However, before we look forward, we''re going back today with the release of Sonic Origins.

Dataminers have already searched the contents of Origins, but these aren''t for any of the classic Sonic games, but rather for Frontiers (thanks, Sonic Stadium, and BlueStarEXSF on ResetEra).

These shaders indicate that the menus in Origins were developed using Frontiers tools, which means there may be no references to the next 3D Sonic game. This may, therefore, no longer be involved in the game this time, so it''s worthwhile to take all of this with a pinch of salt, but there''s also a few things to add to it here: the return of everyone''s favourite frog-chasing cat.

Both @ahremic and a friend found all of their items in a Pastebin documentation right here. Several documents refer to complete tasks, tutorials, and clearing levels, but we''ve selected several of the most interesting sections:

FirstChaosEmeraldStrageGet - ChaosEmeraldGot - KodamaElderFirstTalked - FishCaught - NewFishFirstTalked - FishingBigFirstTalked - FishingSpotId - GrowFlowerStartDay

Some of these are quite self-explanatory yet the Chaos Emerald stages are coming back, and Grow Flowers may suggest a new mode or just be code for flowers respawning. But in this tiny scoop of data we''ve received, we think three key new questions are worth digging.

First is the list of ''Kodama'', which is used by people in Japanese folklore. If you''ve seen Studio Ghibli''s Princess Mononoke then you''ll know it, this could be a brand new character being introduced in Frontiers. And, according to all of the footage, tree spirits wouldn''t be out of place in this strange new world.

If you''ve ever played Sonic Adventure then you''ll know where this is going. ''FishingBigFirstTalked'' is potentially referring to Big the Cat, the fishing-loving cat who has to save his best friend Froggy through a series of fishing minigames. There are a lot of documents here that may well be coming to Frontiers. If it is, then it makes sense that Big would be there. We all know him very.

This will be said once more, because, although these records were discovered in Sonic Origins, they may no longer be relevant to Frontiers, but it is a proof of what has at least been considered for the next 3D entry in the Sonic series. We''ll have to wait and see if this turns out to be a good catch!

Sonic Origins is now available on Switch, and click here to see what the critics thought of the game. In this video, Sonic Frontiers is anticipated to be released later this year.
