Three months after its release, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 has set a box office target of over $400 million, making it the fifth highest-grossing video game of all time.

So far, the Box Office Mojo has set a sales record of $400,015,446. Detective Pikachu (2020) is currently at No. 1 with two ($433,230,304), Rampage (2018) at three ($428,233) and Uncharted (2022) at four.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 has made $190.6 million from its domestic release in the United States, earning $71 million during its opening weekend. A total of $209.5 million has been received from international viewers, placing the film in the eighth spot among the highest worldwide films launches this year.

The director of the Segas Sonic team, Takashi Iizuka, spoke with VGC about the filmmaker''s success and the wide variety of audience they have been able to reach.

We were looking into this broad audience of people who may never played the game before, or who don''t play them all too often, according to Iizukas. Its this broad group of fans that we must begin now making content for.
