The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, which is one of the most popular characters in gaming today, is influenced by Geralt of Rivia''s great narrative as well as the cast of characters. However, Geralt''s status as a beloved protagonist is also attributed to his character.
The fact that Geralt is such a talented protagonist is a feat in itself for CD Projekt Red. This is because he was never a blank slate but an established character from the original Witcher book series. As such, constructing a likable video game protagonist that was respectful of the player''s personality, while still offering player choice, is worthy of praise. It is now a part of the same established personality that drew out the attention of many The Witcher 3 fans.
Why Is Geralt of The Witcher 3 a Wild Hunt Favorite?
Geralts'' off-the-shoulder attitude is enhanced by his dexterity from musing about submitting a pan contract to f-off. It makes the games dialogue much more engaging. However, there are a few exceptions to Geralt''s stubborn lines, which aren''t just sarcastic jokes. Case in point: He''s displeased with Yennefer while they''re in Freyas Garden for The Witcher 3''s quest in Wolfs Clothing.
Geralt is also a pretty complex protagonist, which makes him more attractive as a character. He is not only a hero, but also quite a villain in The Witcher 3. In his words, he is a freak, and he just so happens to be looking for someone important to him on the vast Continent. In addition, the games quests often present morally gray choices, giving the player and, by extension, Geralt a more nuanced sense of right and wrong.
Through the play, Geralt concentrates heavily on Witcher 3 monster contracts, while remaining neutral in political situations. However, the player may also refuse payment for the quest-giver. Later in the game, there are even political subplots that Geralt may play in assassinating a king for the benefit of the Northern Realms.
This demonstrates that Geralt is not the heartless monster slayer he claims to be. He cares for people at the same time (at least if the player chooses to). Moreso, Geralt is keen to protect those who attend the game in his inner circle. This is especially evident when it comes to Ciri of The Witcher 3.
The Witcher 3s main quest revolves around Geralt finding Ciri because he loves her. And the game depicts their father-daughter relationship very well. Geralt can choose to accompany Ciri on dangerous missions and expresses his affection in simple ways throughout the game, particularly in the Witcher Ciri ending.
Geralt is not the typical heroic protagonist who tries to save the universe in their humble ways. When he was able to locate Ciri and save her from the Wild Hunt in The Witcher 3, he was no longer looking to be a hero. He even made use of less-than-ethical means to learn her whereabouts. Ultimately, Geralt just wanted to save his adopted daughter, whatever the cost and its that love and determination that make him a protagonist worth rooting for.
The Witcher 3 is now available on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
