Maverick spoilers follow in Top Gun.
Maverick has reached yet another box office milestone, according to the Top Gun.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Tom Cruise film has become only the third Hollywood film of the epidemic to reach the $900 million mark.
The sequel reached the milestone on Monday (June 20) after reaching a total of $474.8 million in the United States and $427.1 million overseas. Its global earnings are currently at a whopping $901.9 million, which is Cruise''s largest ever box office earner.
Mission: Impossible Fallout, a 2018 blockbuster, had previously held this honor, earning $791 million worldwide.
It is not just a surprise for Cruise. The film has become Paramount''s most successful original release at the US box office behind Titanic.
Maverick has joined Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Spider-Man: No Way Home, which has earned $950 million and $1.9 billion in total.
Following on from the first Top Gun film, Maverick sees Cruise reprise his role as Lieutenant Pete ''Maverick'' Mitchell, a Navy aviator who is trained to build a new squad of fighter pilots. Miles Teller has also joined the cast, playing Lieutenant Bradley''s ''Rooster'' Bradshaw, Maverick''s previous partner, Goose.
Val Kilmer, an original Top Gun star, spoke to the audience about his dramatic surprise appearance in the sequel. Kilmer previously appeared as Iceman, aka Tom Kazansky.
"I was extremely disappointed the first time I saw it," said the author of USA Today. "Almost 40 years is a long time for a reunion. We laughed all day. Tom is fantastic and surprisingly funny."
Maverick is playing in UK and US cinemas, according to Top Gun.
