Martin Hancock, star of Coronation Street, talks about Spider's return to the game ...

Following are some spoilers from Coronation Street.

Martin Hancock, who plays Spider Nugent on Returning Coronation Street, has admitted that he has extensive aches.

After 19 years of being a kid, the actor is expected to return to the cobbles next week, bringing his surprise to Toyah Battersby, an ex-girlfriend, to the test.

Martin spoke to Digital Spy and other mediums about the return, saying it was "really exciting and a bit bit scary." It''s "momentable, I''m really pleased."

Asked if I was asked I would come back. I''ve gone and done other things. You''d be surprised at the places Corrie touches in the world.

"Towards Christmas last year, Georgia brought a photo up of us when we were very young, a Toyah and Spider photo of us arm in head when we were very young. It went into a few papers, and my mother in law said, "Ere duck, you''re in the papers!"

"So I had a look at it and I got all sentimental, then my wife said you''ve always said you''d go back and you''re not getting any younger," he added. "So I had a word with my agent who had a word with Corrie, and there was a bit of toing and froing, and here I am."

Martin admitted that "I wanted to say it was very, very challenging and very thorough." Part of me is Spider, obviously. I''ve always carried a bit of that militancy with me, but not to the same extent he has. I''m Spider-lite. In that sense it''s quite easy to step back in, but at the same time it''s a bit odd.

"It''s amazing how going through the years when there''s a green story in the papers or something in the world that''s the type of thing Spider would be interested in, and it makes me reconsider and wonder how he might react. I like to believe that Spider is my better self."

On filming, the actor revealed that he was "extremely anxious" and had "sleepless nights."

"My first day back before we started filming, I went in for an orientation because it''s a different studio from the one I was at, and the first person I met was one of the first ADs I ever encountered, which was Dale," he said.

"That was amazing, and the first members of the cast I saw were Georgia and Jane and that was like yeah get in. It was like a huge warm blanket of love thrown over me, it was fantastic."

Coronation Street is airing on ITV on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, but is now available on the ITV Hub.
