Maddy Hill, who plays Nancy Carter in EastEnders, has withdrawn from the role a year after returning to the show.

Nancy took off following the breakdown of her relationship with Zack Hudson on Thursday''s (Jun 23) episode of the BBC soap.

Nancy was left devastated earlier in the week by Zack''s cheating on her with Sam Mitchell.

While Nancy considered giving Zack another chance, she ultimately concluded that their relationship would never be the same again.

Linda''s alcoholism and the role she believed it was in the automobile accident have also been battling Nancy.

Maddy, who plays Nancy in Digital Spy, said, "It''s been fantastic revisiting Nancy and the Square in the past year, but it felt like the right time to move on for now. I already miss everyone and feel so grateful to work with people I have so much love for."

"We wish Maddy all the best for the future," said a BBC spokesperson.

Nancy contemplated briefly adopting her baby sister Annie as she prepares to fly to Manchester tonight.

After a difficult showdown with Linda, Nancy decided to hand Annie back, but sadly, she did not leave on very good terms with her mother.

Viewers know that a devious Janine was actually driving the car when it crashed, before he framing Linda, who was drinking.

Maddy resurrected the role in Nancy for three years between 2013 and 2016.
