Blizzards Reddit Q&A Talking About Overwatch 2 ...

Developers from Blizzard Entertainment visited Reddit on Wednesday to answer questions about Overwatch 2, the free-to-play semi-sequel to the hero shooter that is expected to launch this October. Overwatch 2 developers, including game director Aaron Keller, answered some burning questions about what''s going to happen to your existing credits and unopened loot boxes in Overwatch, but left some questions unanswered.

Overwatch 2, with five things to do, particularly if you are an existing Overwatch player.

All your unopened loot boxes will be automatically opened for you in October. Whats unclear is what you''ll be able to spend the previous Overwatch currency on if all of the original games cosmetic items are unlocked.

Before Overwatch 2 will be launched in October, Jon Spector, the company''s commercial head and vice president, said. However, those existing currencies (credits, OWL tokens, and competitive points) will come with you into Overwatch 2. Before it will be introduced, any unopened loot boxes will be automatically opened with your account receiving all of the contents directly.

Spector explained later that OW1 credits come with you to OW2, but that our new virtual currency will be the main currency, and that there will be things in OW2 that will not be purchasable with those OW1 credits.

In October, players will get access to three new heroes (Sojourn, Junker Queen, and an unannounced support character), a variety of hero reworks, six new maps, a new game mode called Push, as well as a slew of new cosmetics. That''s all, after all, the games'' latest hero, Echo, has been drafted into the roster.

When asked on the unexpectedly high number of new heroes on day one, game director Aaron Keller had to say:

For instance, Overwatch 2 was initially split between the PvE and the PvP sides of the game, and the way it was planned was to get most aspects of the game completed once the game was ready to ship. However, there was no secret vault of completed heroes and other features that had been holding the game since the beginning. This is because many of the features of PvE, like the enemy units and hero talents, are so excited to go F2P and release content on a seasonal basis, rather than holding it to

Weve evolved and restructured the team to achieve our goals throughout the long term. We have large plans for the game, including for new heroes, maps, and game modes, but to accomplish these goals well while still creating content for our seasons takes a lot of effort and time. For example, the season 2 hero is now over, and the other two are supported!

While Overwatch was strictly a multiplayer game, the sequel will bring with it a single-player, cooperative story-driven, mission-based content. Blizzards plans to launch the PvE side of Overwatch 2 in 2023, and the developer did not reveal much about the other half of the game during its Reddit AMA.

Keller said that Overwatch 2 will be launched in early access, indicating that this is only the start of a slew of new things coming to the game, and that the PvE campaign will be released as part of the Blizzards live service program.

We are not ready to discuss our PvE plans yet, but it''s really important for us to make sure people understand the lore and the stakes going in, according to Gavin Jurgens-Fyhrie, the leading narrative designer and writer on Overwatch 2. We are developing new bios and have other exceptional plans that will surprise even long-term fans.

Gavin Winter, the systems designer for Overwatch 2, discussed that certain software developed for the PvE campaign component of Overwatch 2 might assist in a replacement of Assault-style maps in Overwatch 2. (In the event you haven''t been keeping up, maps like Hanamura, Temple of Anubis, and other 2CP maps will not be used in core game modes in Overwatch 2, with Blizzard citing players'' displeasure.)

Overwatch, as-is, isn''t a particularly social game. However, this may be the case.

We are looking to expand social systems to Overwatch 2, and a guild system is on the rise for us, according to Keller. This is an exciting opportunity and something was really excited about, but this feature is a big hit, not only for large groups of our workforce, but many other departments at Blizzard. It''s too early to discuss specifics or when it will come out.

Keller said that the Overwatch team is starting to investigate in-game tournaments for the sequel.

Moira, Symmetra, and Brigitte will all see changes during Overwatch 2''s upcoming beta and when the game goes live. Moira, according to senior hero Josh Noh, will get an unspecified addition utility during the beta. Symmetras dont-call-it-a-rework will help her better react to the 5v5 speed, but Brigitte should expect shorter teleporter build time and faster secondary fire projectile speed.

Despite what a prototype menu screen for Overwatch 2 showed last week, Blizzard clarified that the Assault map Hanamura is not being reimagined into a Payload map. Despite the fact that the map itself was not being reimagined as a payload map.
