Crunchyroll's Best Anime (June 2022)

Crunchyroll's Best Anime (June 2022) ...

Crunchyroll served as the main (or only) source of anime for the long term. Especially when it comes to new series, anime properties spread across a wide range of platforms; however, when it comes to its enormous size, Crunchyroll''s library is second to none.

Crunchyroll has years upon years of programming at its disposal. Even with Funimation purchasing Crunchyroll, the latter''s relevance hasn''t diminished at all. With tens of thousands of series available on the platform, newcomers to Japanese animation may not know where to start. Here are the best anime on Crunchyroll across all genres.

The anime''s Japanese titles include links to their Crunchyroll pages.

Funimation and Crunchyroll have announced that the former''s library will join the latter on March 1, 2022. This process will take a while, but the shows mentioned in the following articles that once were solely on Funimation should/could eventually appear on Crunchyroll:

Best Spring 2022 Anime On Crunchyroll

Spring 2022 is approaching its conclusion, and the season has produced more than its share of fantastic shows. Not every anime on Crunchyroll is, but the majority of them are on the streaming service. There is something for everyone, whether it be romance, action, comedy, slice of life, or thrillers. What are the greatest Spring 2022 anime on Crunchyroll?

Japanese Title Spy x Family
Studio Wit Studio, CloverWorks
Genre Comedy, Action
Number of Episodes 11+

Spy x Family is expected to premiere as one of the most anticipated new anime of Spring 2022, and the pilot episode more than just delivered on the hype. Twilight is a super spy who is known to be something of a chameleon, and he plays the key role in ensuring that Westalis and Ostania do not end up fighting.

One day, Twilight receives a vacation that requires him to establish a family, including a child who may participate in Eden Academy. Naturally, the spy picks up a young girl from an orphanage, but Anya is not exactly as she appears. As well as Yor, the woman who ends up becoming Twilight''s wife and mother, the same goes true.

Spy x Family has been a pleasure, even producing quite a few edge-of-the-seat moments without relying on large screen sets (except for an episode involving a castle).

Japanese Title Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai: Ultra Romantic
Studio A-1 Pictures
Genre Comedy, Romance
Number of Episodes 35+

Miyuki Shirogane and Kaguya Shinomiya are the founders of Shuchiin Academy, which both like each other but are keen to admit it. Miyuki and Kaguya, who hail from diverse backgrounds and are concerned about each other''s intentions, take part in battles to see who will be tricked into declaring their feelings first.

The Ultra Romantic season will air in Spring 2022, with a host of fantastic and hilarious episodes. This anime will only gain momentum, although there is still plenty of content left for the show to adapt.

Japanese Title Tomodachi Game
Studio Okuruto Noboru
Genre Psychological Thriller
Number of Episodes 12

Is it possible to depend on your friends? Tomodachi Game, an anime adaptation of Mikoto Yamaguchi''s well-known manga, involves five schoolmates, who are dragged into a game that helps them to see if their friendship is strong enough to resist the temptation of money. When confronted with debt, Yuuichi Katagiri quickly realizes that perhaps he must reconsider whether his trust in his friends is justified.

The Tomodachi Game has been a fun affair, with shocking twists, over-the-top performances, and moments that blur the line between hilariously amazing and laughably bad. This anime is nonetheless entertaining and, plus importantly, knows how to build and maintain love for each episode.

Japanese Title One Piece
Studio Toei Animation
Genre Battle Shonen
Number of Episodes 1022+

One Piece has been on the air for so long that it cannot be considered a Winter 2022 anime; nevertheless, the show is being aired alongside Platinum End, Orient, and Tokyo''s 24th Ward, so it''s worth mentioning. One Piece has had its greatest stretch of episodes in a while, resulting in a storyline that transcends this universe''s social landscape, but also serves as a cohesive character.

While the shonen anime may be a bit slow, One Piece''s lovable characters, fantastic world-building, and a mix of action and humor make it difficult to recommend to newcomers. Even if one piece is worth the effort, it does not seem to be a bad one.

Best Action Anime On Crunchyroll

Japanese Title Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
Studio Bones
Number of Episodes 64

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is now available as the ultimate gateway anime for action or battle shonen shows. FMA:B is based in a world where alchemy is possible, governed by the same rules. When the Elric siblings break this rule, they pay a steep fee, which requires them to purchase a Philosopher''s Stone to reverse.

FMA:B is a good story that delivers exceptional action, heartbreaking moments, and an overabundance of humor. But choosing the best action anime on Crunchyroll ultimately comes down to personal preference, but FMA:B is the perfect place to start.

Japanese Title Kill La Kill
Studio Trigger
Number of Episodes 24

Trigger''s Kill la Kill might be the most "anime" anime to ever, and that''s definitely a compliment. From its mellow tone and tongue-in-cheek fanservice, Kill la Kill feels like a shambles of the medium, which goes for broke and takes no prisoners.

Ryuuko Matoi, who is dressed in a magical girl outfit and a scissor blade, is forced to flee Honnouji Academy to remove the student council and avenge her father. This simple approach is spread across many settings.

Japanese Title Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba
Studio ufotable
Number of Episodes 44

Demon Slayer has grown into one of the world''s greatest shonen anime since Taisho, where he was eradicated by demons and transformed his sister into something other than human. Tanjiro is enthused to save Nezuko, and is embarking on a journey to the Demon Slayer Corps, which requires nothing but hardship.

Demon Slayer has only expanded from strength to strength since its first anime''s introduction in 2019 and there is still a lot of story to be told.

Japanese Title Shingeki no Kyojin
Studios Wit Studio, MAPPA
Genre Shonen
Number of Episodes 87

After almost a decade, Attack on Titan is approaching its conclusion, while the final season still has a third part to go. Set in a post-apocalyptic world where the last remnants of humanity live behind walls to "protect" them from massive man-eating beasts called Titans, this beloved anime is unpredictable, intense, well-animated, and complex.

Each season brings with it a significant shift in the story''s direction, often taking seemingly straightforward characters and ignoring expectations. At Attack on Titan, the anime set a high standard for not just the shonen anime but the industry in general, and it will take something special to fill the hole left by this series when it starts.

Best Comedy Anime On Crunchyroll

Japanese Title Great Teacher Onizuka
Studio Studio Pierrot
Number of Episodes 43

Great Teacher Onizuka, a classic comedy series about a reformed gang leader who became a high school teacher, follows its eponymous sensei as he attempts to connect with students who have valid reasons to not be supportive. The GTO has tackled a variety of serious issues, including suicide and bullying, while maintaining a consistently humorous tone.

Onizuka is an all-time great comedy protagonist. While perverted, the sensei is generally in the right place; in the long run, his face is relying on to produce one hilarious reaction.

Japanese Title Gintama
Studios Sunrise, Bandai Namco Pictures
Number of Episodes 367

Gintama should not be someone''s introduction to anime, but rather look at Rurouni Kenshin first, which is also on Crunchyroll. Once the masterpiece is out, Gintama attends, as well as a chuckle.

In this alternate reality, Earth has fallen to aliens (Amanto) and samurai have been banned in Edo. Gintoki has no choice but to accept any random job that fails to fall on his lap. More often than not, hilarity ensues.

Japanese Title Asobi Asobase
Studio Lerche
Number of Episodes 12

On Crunchyroll, there are a wide variety of "cute girls doing cute things," and Asobi Asobase takes the concept and brutally twists it. A school club that has no direction other than to have "fun," which is quite difficult to accomplish when these three girls are in the same room.

At times, Asobi Asobase has a slew of lines it is unwilling to cross, and it manages to produce a slew of huge laughs along the way. All three girls have quirks that allow them to stand out in the comedy genre, and their imperfections make them especially likable. That said, Hanako can be gruesome.

Japanese Title Gakuen Handsome
Studio Team YokkyuFuman
Number of Episodes 12

This anime is may well be polarizing, but Gakuen Handsome is a hilarious parody of the boys'' love affair. Yoshiki Maeda, a no-face protagonist, travels to an all-boys high school and quickly finds himself attracting the attention of a slew of bachelors. These potential partners are able to cover the typical archetypes found in these kinds of shows, pushed to their most horribly extremes. The result is a shocking amount of go

The Gakuen Handsome''s narrative is purposefully hideous, and the same applies to character creations that can be best described as "pointy." With each episode lasting three minutes, this series cruises by while giving a laugh-a-second; on the other hand, some familiarity with boys loves manga and anime.

Best Slice Of Life Anime On Crunchyroll

Japanese Title Yuru Camp
Studio C-Station
Number of Episodes 25

There is a bit of overlap between comedy and slice of life, but the latter shows are more preoccupied with characterization than gags. Take Laid-Back Camp as an example; the anime has a slew of funny moments, but these jokes are never the focus of an episode. Instead, the focus is always on the main girls'' adventures as they travel to different camping sites in Japan.

Laid-Back Camp, which is full of charm and joy, is a soothing watch, filled with stunning scenery, endearing characters, and (narrative) warmth.

Japanese Title Natsume Yuujinchou
Studios Brain''''s Base, Shuka
Number of Episodes 78

Takashi Natsume has developed an understanding of yokai, an ability he inherited from his grandmother. This addition also gives the notepad the owner authority to distinguish between two different spirits. This makes Natsume a target for a wide range of cultures.

Although this suggestion may be used as a supernatural action series, Natsume''s Book of Friends merges things in another direction. Instead of vicious battles, Natsume wants only to return each name, removing the yokai from the book''s control. This journey is usually calm.

Japanese Title Sora yori mo Tooi Basho
Studios Madhouse
Number of Episodes 13

Although the concept of classifying a place beyond the Universe as part of life is not 100% accurate, the character''s subject is far from ordinary. The anime follows four young men who wish to go to Antarctica, and each of them has their own reasons behind this ambitious goal. Madhouse''s series is powerful, heartbreaking, funny, and grounded (despite the somewhat odd premise).

Although the girls are focused on their destination, A Place Further The Universe is just as much about the journey, and this is very much a coming-of-age story. This show is complete with exceptional animation, an unbeatable story, and wonderful characters. This episode is quite impressive.

Best Sports Anime On Crunchyroll

Japanese Title Kaze ga Tsuyoku Fuiteiru
Studio Production I.G
Number of Episodes 23

Although sports anime may not seem all that attractive to the uninitiated, the genre is among the most popular anime. It does not matter whether a viewer has knowledge or interest in the main sport, since it is often only used as a model for character development, drama, and humor.

Running with the Wind is about healing, friendship, and establishing personal goals. Outside a few exceptions, the Kansei University Track Club is staffed with novices, so they have a long journey ahead of them if they wish to attend the Hakone Ekiden.

Japanese Title Haikyu!!
Studio Production I.G
Number of Episodes 85

Haikyu!! is about volleyball; for the sake of being unproven players who refuse to take up their desire to play the sport, regardless of the obstacles in their path. It is about the collaboration between Shoyo Hinata and Tobio Kageyama, two individuals who do not get along but they also bring out the best in one another. It is about teamwork, hardship, success, and failure. Basically, Haikyu!! is about living.

Apart from that, this anime is ridiculously entertaining, whether it be through its captivating matches, memorable characters, or on-point humor. Chaque season is fantastic in its own right, and there isn''t too much to a bad episode to be found across the series.

Japanese Title Diamond no Ace
Studio Madhouse
Number of Episodes 178

Ace of Diamond, based on Yuji Terajima''s manga, is a divestarter into baseball, a sport that features in a number of great anime. On the other hand, there is Eijun Sawamura, a hot-head with a unique pitching technique and a tendency to act like a lovable idiot. On the other hand, there is Furuya Satoru, a pitcher who uses power to overwhelm batters.

Ace of Diamond focuses on both the two characters and Seido''s broad team, a group that undergoes quite a few changes over the course of the series. The anime opted for a realistic representation of the sport and the training that builds as a player and person. While these individuals are talented, they must overcome many obstacles to achieve their potential.

Japanese Title Hajime no Ippo
Studios Madhouse, MAPPA
Number of Episodes 100

Fighting Spirit is a well-known boxing anime of all time, ranging from a timid and bullied kid who gets inspired to take on boxing after meeting Takamura. Through hard work and persistence, Ippo strives to be the ultimate boxing leader in history.

Fighting Spirit is one of Madhouse''s finest shows, which is stating a lot. Even if the original season is more than two decades old by this point, the animation still looks fantastic during matches. Fighting Spirit is resurrected with a solid roster of characters, some of whom are hilarious.

Weirdly, Crunchyroll does not have this show''s second season, making for an incomplete and joyful start. However, season one has 75 episodes, so there''s a lot to keep an eye on before going through it.

Best Sci-Fi Anime On Crunchyroll

Japanese Title Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann
Studio Gainax
Number of Episodes 27

Gainax''s Gurren Lagann is a fan of anime. No, it makes sense that the show is nothing but spectacular action, but this anime from 2007 supports its univers-spanning conflicts with diverse characters, a consistent thematic identity, and ambitious storytelling. In this way, Gurren Lagann is all about pushing beyond your limits in search of freedom.

Gurren Lagann''s greatest advantage is that the anime never ignores its human element in favor of spectacle. Ultimately, this is a coming-of-age story that just happens to take place in an extremely unique situation.

Japanese Title Steins;Gate
Studio White Fox
Number of Episodes 24

Steins is divided into two halves as they follow the members of the Future Gadget Laboratory, led by the enigmatic Rintaro Okabe. The second half of the anime is a sci-fi thrill ride that focuses on time travel and the people who want to kill for it.

Both halves are fantastic when viewed in isolation, and they are even better when taken as a whole. Steins;Gate has an array of genres, and it executes all of them well. After finishing the series, Crunchyroll subscribers may check out Steins;Gate 0, an alternate reality spin-off that is pretty fantastic in its own right.

Japanese Title Kiseijuu: Sei no Kakuritsu
Studio Madhouse
Number of Episodes 24

Aliens'' takeover of humans is a tried-and-tested component of the sci-fi world, particularly in the live-action world. Parasyte takes many standard tropes synonymous with this concept and twists them equally in order to create an experience that is both familiar and, well, alien. At least that was the case until his hand became the host of an alien parasite, Migi, who failed to take over the human''s brain.

The story''s narrative''s core consists of Izumi and Migi, with both characters influencing each other the longer they stay fused. Parasyte is a slow-burning sci-fi thriller that expertly manages quiet, contemplative moments and horrifying scenes of a dismal gore.

Best Thriller Anime On Crunchyroll

Japanese Title Gyakkyou Burai Kaiji
Studio Madhouse
Number of Episodes 52

The few that exist in gambling are almost universally excellent. Kaiji is basically a normal person who is constantly in the top shape, unlike Akagi and One Outs.

Kaiji will take part in dangerous games that will either make him rich or put him deeper in the hole. Regardless of how much the cost is, there is no guarantee that Kaiji will win. This is because the audience almost always knows Kaiji''s plan, so they are completely along with the protagonist throughout the entire run.

Japanese Title Death Note
Studio Madhouse
Number of Episodes 37

Death Note''s legacy is revealed as an all-time great. It follows Light Yagami, an intelligent teenager who has access to a god of death''s book, the Death Note, and who has simply chosen to kill anyone through writing the name of the person. Light is able to adapt the world to his justice interpretation, a strategy that quickly attracts the attention of the cops, and specifically a master detective named L.

Death Note brings together two geniuses in a battle of wits, charisma, and drive. This anime is an addictive watch with perhaps the greatest cat-and-mouse battle in anime, except for Monster.

Japanese Title Boku dake ga Inai Machi
Studio A-1 Pictures
Number of Episodes 12

Satoru Fujinuma suddenly gives up the ability to travel back in time, initially a couple of minutes and eventually years. This power, erupted by a tragedy, sends Satoru back to his childhood, where he plans to investigate the disappearance of a young girl.

Erased is a fantastic show with a dramatic central narrative, two endearing main characters who undergo quite a bit of development over the course of the series, as well as excellent animation. Although this series is considered as a whole, this series is easily one of the best thriller anime of all time.

Japanese Title Psycho-Pass
Studio Production I.G
Number of Episodes 33

Psycho-Pass is a dark, futuristic world built on a justice system that educates people on their potential to commit future crimes. They are then removed from society with little hope of returning. The law is maintained by Inspectors and Enforcers, who are already known as latent criminals.

Psycho-Pass is an intense sci-fi thriller that explores issues dealing with accountability and whether the preservation of the many outweighs an individual''s rights. This anime is rarely an easy sit, but it is also never dull. Crunchyroll only has the show''s first two seasons, but each one tells complete stories in their own right. Season one is particularly strong and features one of the most memorable villains in anime.

Best Isekai Anime On Crunchyroll

Japanese Title Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu
Studio White Fox
Number of Episodes 50

Crunchyroll is not lacking in the isekai anime, so anyone looking to jump into another world will be set for a few months at the very least. However, due to similarities in setting, tone, and protagonists, many of the subgenre''s shows may begin to blend together after a while. Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World - is a unique beast.

Subaru, a normal human, is teleported to a fantasy world with magic, waifus, and talking mascots. Re:ZERO wastes a lot of time developing a power fantasy story, which includes suffering, failure, and self-discovery. Season 2 is a pleasure to demonstrate. Emilia''s personality is a big deal.

Japanese Title Tensei shitara Slime Datta Ken
Studio 8bit
Number of Episodes 48

As fantastic as Re:ZERO is, it isn''t necessarily indicative of the isekai anime as a whole. Rather, anyone looking to see a more idiom of the subgenre, they should look no further than That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, which is one of the best anime on Crunchyroll. After Satoru Mikami''s incarnation is a slime in a fantasy world, although he has the capacity to learn the skills of other

Rimuru becomes extremely overpowered after the opening few episodes, implying that most battles are a foregone conclusion; however, the anime''s focus on diplomacy allows the story to maintain momentum even if battles lack much in the way of tension. The characters are also amazingly flinch.

Japanese Title Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo!
Studio Studio Deen
Number of Episodes 22

It''s apparent that Isekai''s rise in popularity paved the way for explicit conventions, and KonoSuba is the most famous example of such a series. Kazuma Satou dies in a "heroic" manner and is sent to another world by a "divine" goddess named Aqua. The decision quickly backfires when it becomes apparent that the goddess can be more of a hindrance than an adversary.

Kazuma has put together the most problematical party in anime history, and they embark on a journey to defeat the Demon King, hoping to avoid killing one another accidentally.

Japanese Title Overlord
Studio Madhouse
Number of Episodes 39

The majority of the isekai anime follow ordinary people as they become whisked away to a fantasy world that allows them to shine as heroes. Short story short, Momonga discovers himself trapped in a world similar to that of the legendary Ainz Ooal Gown. Ainz is also joined by a number of powerful subordinates who will follow his command.

Ainz manages to take over this world, which is no means prepared to deal with a threat as powerful as him. Overlord is intense, committed to its mission, and bizarrely hilarious.

Mobile Suit Gundam is the ultimate Mecha franchise, which has not only shaped the genre''s development but also people''s belief. Crunchyroll does not have every Gundam series in existence, but it has a solid selection from throughout the franchise''s ancient history. Here''s a few things to keep an eye on.

  • Mobile Suit Gundam: Aside from the dated visuals and slow pacing compared to modern shows, the original series still holds up pretty well from a story perspective. This is plainly a great war anime.
  • Mobile Fighter G Gundam: More of a traditional action series, this 1994 release mostly pushes the political elements to the side to focus on glorious over-the-top action. It is a solid pick for newcomers to the series as it stands on its own pretty well.
  • Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans: Arguably the best entry-level modern series in the franchise, Iron-Blooded Orphans boasts fantastic animation, a mature storyline, and brilliant action.
Japanese Title SSSS.GRIDMAN
Studio Trigger
Number of Episodes 12

The SSSS.Gridman travels to the intersection of users: people appear to be either admiring or dissatisfied with it. Based on the live-action Gridman the Hyper Agent series from the 1990s, the anime''s plot might be loosely described as a giant hero battles against an array of kaiju, however, there is a lot more going on here than a Power Rangers episode. In fact, the animation is impressive throughout.

SSSS.Gridman devotes a lot of time to its characters, with one of the main antagonists, Akane, receiving a lot of attention and development. Yuta Hibiki, the protagonist, is most often recognized as an avatar for Gridman.

Best Romance Anime On Crunchyroll

Japanese Title Fruits Basket
Studio TMS Entertainment
Number of Episodes 63

The TMS Entertainment manga adaptation of Natsuki Takaya''s Fruits Basket manga is a work of art that tells a fantastic story that encompasses a wide spectrum of genres, and it aides each individual individual at certain points. Fruits Basket can be a funny comedy, a complex drama, or a difficult romance.

Fruits Basket is unlikely to have an acquired taste, but its appeal is universal. This is the one of the most popular anime on Crunchyroll.

Japanese Title Sono Bisque Doll wa Koi wo Suru
Studio CloverWorks
Genre Slice of Life, Romance
Number of Episodes 12

The most powerful new anime to air during the Winter 2022 season, My Dress-Up Darling has all the conventions of a stereotypical romance anime: a sluggish guy suddenly attracts the interest of the most famous girl at school. The thing that distinguishes this show from other shows is that My Dress-Up Darling gives Wakana Gojou and Marin to become friends because of the latter''s interest in cosplay, along with the former''s desire for creating Hina Dolls.

My Dress-Up Darling is a feel-good anime that blends fantastic character charm and humor.

Best Magical Girl Anime On Crunchyroll

Japanese Title Cardcaptor Sakura
Studio Madhouse
Number of Episodes 92

Cardcaptor Sakura, the only character from Sailor Moon, has probably introduced most people to a magical girl anime, at least for those who watched Japanese animation during the early 2000s. This series, inspired by Madhouse, chronicles a young girl who suddenly discovers herself with magical abilities, and she embarks on a quest to collect missing cards.

Sakura''s beauty resides in its balance. The anime is well suited to action, comedy, romance, and suspense, blending them together to create a happy experience. The series also has a host of dark moments.

Japanese Title Shoujo Kakumei Utena
Studio J.C.Staff
Number of Episodes 39

Revolutionary Girl Utena, an anime classic that falls within the Magical Girl style without being a prototypical example, is a surreal masterpiece overflowing with symbolism. As the two become close friends, Utena acts as Anthy''s protector as she takes part in countless bizarre conflicts that don''t pay attention to internal logic.

Revolutionary Girl Utena is a series that seeks to be analyzed and explored before it is released in 1997. The anime has gone quite well, but it should be watched before it is released for the 1999 film Revolutionary Girl Utena: The Adolescence of Utena.

Japanese Title Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica
Studio Shaft
Number of Episodes 12

Puella Magi Madoka Magica may be the most famous magical girl anime of the last two decades, at least with hardcore fans. In fact, the anime''s twist has become so well-known that it can inadvertently reduce the story''s impact or shock factor. Some anime confuse classification or imply so many styles that they become something totally different. These shows are often acquired tastes, but they can also be quite spectacular.

Monogatari is essentially about a guy who becomes a vampire and assists a group of girls suffering from supernatural distress, although it does not include elements from psychological, spiritual, and supernatural powers.

Monogatari is a multi-stage comedy that combines asian musings and the ability to occasionally dish out a bloody battle. Moreover, this anime is keen to draw about a complex narrative that seems to work in spite of itself. However, Monogatari is a visual masterpiece and a contender for the show''s greatest work, even if this same art style may be overburdened.

Monogatari is worth a trip, mainly because there is nothing else that it does.
