According to Deadline, the masked crime-fighting superhero is returning to the big screen. Filmmaker Leigh Whannell is in talks to direct Green Hornet and Kato.

Whannell developed the scripts for the Saw and Insidious franchises before making his directorial debut in Chapter 3 of Insidious: Chapter 3. After successful with Upgrade (2018) and The Invisible Man, Whannell was previously in talks to direct the upcoming reboot of Universal''s The Wolf Man, with Ryan Gosling as the lead character.

Bradley Gallo (Magic Rock) and Michael Helfant, who once served as the director of Marvel Studios and led numerous MCU projects such as Iron Man (2008) and The Incredible Hulk (2008), will film the film. Universal will be developing the film because to Whannell''s long history with the studio.

Despite the plethora of adaptations, the narrative of the franchise usually centers on Britt Reid, a wealthy publisher who disguises himself at night and combats violence with his friends Kato. In 1936, The Green Hornet''s character was first introduced to audience through the same name, but it became popular among other programs, including the 1966 television series with Van Williams as the title character and Bruce Lee as Kato.

The most recent adaptation of the character was the 2011 reboot starring Seth Rogen, Jay Chou, and Cameron Diaz. Despite the star-studded cast, the sequel had been canceled due to negative feedback and a lower-than-expected box office performance. However, with a new reboot on the way, and a renowned filmmaker might have another chance to shine.

Due to the early development of the film, no casting has been announced. However, the inclusion of Kato''s name in the title suggests the character may play a greater role in the film than previous adaptations. With Whannell as the franchise''s new protagonist, the character may finally have some new life.
