Barbarian, a horror film, appears to be the ultimate Airbnb rut ...

An Airbnb stay is a perfect set up for an endless bout of terror, and the horror film Barbarian seems to be using the concept for its creepy premise. Barbarian stars Georgina Campbell (Black Mirror) and Bill Skarsgard (It) as her unassuming rental-house occupant who is either the source of or the victim of something terrible.

Campbells character opens the door of the rental house she will stay in in in Detroit for a job interview and knocking on the door. Skarsgards is a bit gruesome, but she agrees to stay in the house until the morning. Then, strange things happen.

At this point, things transition into full horror-trailer mode. A Parasite-esque basement is discovered, complete with hidden doors and ropes. There is a montage of running, exploring by phone flashlight (the battery will surely die), as well as some blood and general screaming. However, the trailer is kind enough to reveal plenty of secrets for the actual movie, which is set to be released in theaters on August 12.

While the trailer itself is quite good, the notes are a bit odd. For example, why is Justin Long in this trailer for all of two seconds, cowering on a concrete floor with a flashlight in his hand? Its a great red herring or a preview of his fate. It also boasts that its from a producer of It and a executive producer of The Grudge, which is amusingly and conspicuously specific.

Zach Cregger of Whitest Kids UKnow has written and directed Barbarian. While Cregger has never directed a horror project before, Jordan Peele (Get Out, Nope) is proof that the transition from sketch comedy to horror can be quite successful.
