What to keep an eye on before Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

What to keep an eye on before Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness ...

Update, 6/22: This post has been updated as part of Doctor Strange''s arrival on Disney Plus.

Doctor Strange is now available on Disney Plus for his own film, which has had quite a bit of change for Stephen Strange since he became the Sorcerer Supreme back in his first solo film. For another, hes opened up the mystery of the infinite multiverse, which means things might get a little complicated for the sequel.

Weve compiled a few lists of all of the Marvel movies you should catch up on. Of course, you might just watch all of the Marvel films once more, but thats a lot of work, and youre probably not getting a lot of Iron Man 2 references out of the MCUs latest addition to the franchise.

If you want to see all of the important scenes from Doctor Strange''s latest adventure, then the first two sections are good to watch. They are unlikely to be necessary for understanding the story, but seeing these six films, two series, and two episodes will aid quite a bit. The final section is totally optional, but it has a few of our best (and most ridiculous) guesses.

This article may or may not include spoilers for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, but it really depends on how good we are at guessing.

The bare minimum (Stephens story, mostly)

This list of mostly all films that brought Stephen Strange to where he was at the beginning of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The list includes his origin story, his biggest struggles, and his worst decisions. However, it also includes a few additional bonuses, like Loki, to give you a crash course in the Marvels multiverse, as well as the Doctor Stranges animated What If...? episode, just to let you know how weird and bad things might get in the infinite realities.

  • Doctor Strange
  • Avengers: Infinity War
  • Avengers: Endgame
  • WandaVision
  • Loki
  • What If... Doctor Strange Lost His Heart Instead of His Hands?
  • Spider-Man: No Way Home

The Wanda essentials

This is everything you need to know about Wanda Maximoffs so far. It will not quite answer all your multiverse questions, so weve included a few double-ups in case Scarlet Witchs story is the only thing you need a refresher on. This list also includes an episode of What If...? that... appears to be going to be relevant to Marvels next film.

  • Avengers: Age of Ultron
  • Captain America: Civil War
  • Avengers: Infinity War
  • Avengers: Endgame
  • What If... Zombies?!
  • WandaVision

The multiversal optimist

This one goes beyond the MCU completionists. Sure, you might certainly see all the Marvel movies again before Multiverse of Madness, but you already knew that. If you have made it this far, it''s because youre hunting for non-MCU movies might be significant this time around, so thats what this list is at least, it''s our greatest guesses on the topic.

  • X-Men If Patrick Stewart really is playing Professor X in this movie, then its worth going back to watch the first time he took the role.
  • Hulk (2003) Eric Banas Hulk is easily the least essential, weirdest, and least beloved cameo possible. Thats why they should do it.
  • Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer Look, this movies bad, but it does give us all of the Fantastic Four hits, including Galactus, the Silver Surfer, and Doctor Doom, so it could be a good primer if Marvel wants to do something daring like introduce Reed Richards and his family.
  • X-Men: Days of Future Past This is a bit of a catch-all for every X-Men universe we may or may not get in Multiverse of Madness.
  • Deadpool This one kind of explains itself. Deadpool could be in this movie.
  • Inhumans One of the last trailers for Multiverse of Madness directly mentions the Illuminati (a shadowy Marvel Comics cabal made up of the smartest and most politically powerful superheroes), so its very possible we could see a cameo (or more) from prominent member of the Illuminati, Black Bolt, king of the Inhumans. Black Bolt also happened to have been the star of Marvels 2017 Inhumans TV series, which was canceled after one season.
