After encountering Claude, Edelgard, and Dimitri, your main character will head to the Garreg Mach Monastery, rescuing them from the bandits in the forest. The professors of the officers academy will invite you to become a student at the Monastery, learning alongside others, but you will need to select one of the three houses. Each includes unique characters for you to use in the game.
Edelgard has led the Black Eagles from the southern part of the Adrestian Empire. Very quickly at the start of the story, Edelgard will return home and attempt a coup against the corrupted officials of her empire, becoming Empress, and taking the fight against Garreg Mach, the Holy Kingdom of Faerghus, and potentially the Leicester Alliance in an attempt to consolidate Fodlan. If you''re curious to go to war with the many factions in Three Hopes, here''s how to learn more
Dimitri travels to the northeast of Garreg Mach, leading the Blue Lions to avoid a coup against Dimitri, one of which will forced the young prince to face his uncle. The Holy Kingdom of Faerghus and the Blue Lions will help the church, directly meeting the overwhelming Adrestian Empire in a desperate attempt to bring justice to Fodlan.
Claude is the leader of the Golden Deers and his house comes from the Leicester Alliance to the northeast of Garreg Mach. The Leicester Alliance''s leader is joined by five major parties, discussing and working together to reach mutual agreements before making their decisions. Claude and his company have to return to defend their borders due to an Almyrian invasion. Other houses are in their respective homes.
When the two-year skip is hope, the Leicester Alliance is endeavoring to protect their borders as little as possible, fearful of a threat from the Adrestian Empire.
The choice is up to you, though, and you need to select your favorite house with the main characters you like most. There are several characters you can recruit later on as you progress through your business outside of the ones you begin with. There is no wrong answer, and playing through the game with other houses is encouraged after failing it once.
