While it might seem like it had existed until September 2017, TikTok only became the number one free app in several countries by June 2018, surpassing only Facebook and YouTube. The mobile app, which originally allowed users to upload short 15-second clips of just about anything, spawned a host of content creators who became more aware of the impact. Charli DAmelio, who was the most successful in over two years.
Charli started her TikTok account in May 2019. From March 2020, she had already identified Loren Gray as the most-followed channel. From sharing videos of herself dancing, Charlis TikTok has facilitated her to broaden her knowledge of animated films, including by publishing a book, and creating a podcast.
Charli might lose her top spot on TikTok soon, and that has finally come to pass. Khaby Lame, a 22-year-old Senegalese-born content creator, passed Charli''s total number of TikTok followers on June 22, 2022, just two years after starting his account. The comedian currently has 143.1 million followers, while Charli has a total of 142.4 million.
There is apparently no bad blood between the two content creators, who shared a photo of themselves posing together in February 2022. Charli has enjoyed great success from her participation on TikTok, and that is unlikely to change anytime soon. Khaby has also had the benefit of being a hugely popular person on social media, after signing a multi-year deal with Hugo Boss in January 2022.
While TikTok has long been viewed as a social media platform primarily for teenagers and young adults, celebrities of all ages are beginning to appreciate its potential. Gordan Ramsay, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Kevin Hart, and even Will Smith all gained significant followers when they first posted one video. As TikTok adds new features on other platforms like Twitch, it will likely remain one of the world''s most commonly utilized social media platforms for a while.
