Last-Minute Real-World Overlaps has been produced for Skys The Lazarus project ...

The Lazarus Project has a few plot details, according to a warning.

After reading an article about a Russian submariner narrowly avoiding the start of a nuclear war during the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis, writer Joe Barton came up with the idea for a new Sky series The Lazarus Project in 2016. It was also the year of the UK Brexit referendum, Donald Trump''s US presidential election, and the death of David Bowie, so it was probably no accident that Barton was contemplating the end of the world.

Coronavirus had drastically changed the global landscape until January 2021, causing Barton to recall that the show was set as the height of lockdown. All of the crew members were given face masks with the name of the show, so we were all treated with Extinction when it occurred in the middle of a pandemic. It was also quite dark.

The Lazarus Project, as the series is now called, is very dark. It is about a world-class organization that uses a singularity in space to reset time by up to one year on the many, many occasions that humanity destroys itself. First, the multiple apocalypses with a new viral epidemic.

We were concerned because the whole first episode of this series is a pandemic! It was this surreal thing of having thought the series and defined it as a sort of sci-fi concept well, not a sci-fi concept because there were instances of several pandemics in the past, and there was always going to be another one. It sounded so intense but realistic, and then it turned out to be very realistic.

The question was whether or not to mention the real-world Coronavirus situation in the series. Wed referenced other real-life events such as 9/11 and the war in Iraq, so we thought we should likely nod to it. A scene in which Paapa Essiedus everyman character George asks Archie (Anjli Mohindra) about the project''s lack of reset time due to COVID-19. Archie examines George witheringly and says she received a vaccination in nine months. Do you

The overlap with current events did not stop there. A major plotline in the subsequent episodes involves military tensions between world powers, including Russia and specifically, Ukraine. In the second half of the series, theres a lot that was still known around Ukraine, but it previously mentioned Ukraine and Russia and NATO. So, as part of the process, we went back and changed a lot of that. National flags were altered using CGI and dialogue was re-recorded over people who spoke about Ukraine. It all felt very prescient

For such a fun, action-packed series, The Lazarus Project strives to understand the bleak truth that they, and all individuals, are absolutely surplus to requirements. The Lazarus Project is about the big thing and the greatest objective, which is that the planet must survive, and they are only tiny cogs, tiny ants. The whole concept of the show is that one person isn''t meaningful enough to turn back time for. Or are they? As Georges begins the project,

Hopefully people will engage with that idea and ask themselves what they would do. I believe most people would do what George does, which is fuck it, im doing everything I can to keep an eye on the person I love, even if it is proven to him that he will be ruining a lot of people''s lives and changing the course. It doesn''t matter to him, to us, if its the person you love, you would do it.

The Lazarus Project is now available on Sky Max for download and is available for download on NOW in the United Kingdom.
