Charlie de Melo of Coronation Street plays the first person to play Imran for the first time ...

Charlie de Melo, who plays Imran Habeeb in Coronation Street, has moved his attention to the theatre this month.

The ex-soap star posted a casting announcement for the Nottingham Playhouse series of The Clothes They Stood Up In, based on Alan Bennett''s book on Instagram yesterday (June 23).

Sophie Thompson (Harry Potter), Adrian Scarborough (Gavin & Stacey), Natasha Magigi (Anatomy of a Scandal) and Newcomer Ned Costello will be acting opposite him.

Charlie De Melo (@charliedemelo) has shared a statement.

"When I first admitted to my (utterly confused) parents that I wanted to pursue acting as an actor, my Mum gave me three provisos, if this was the path I wanted for myself. Three things she wanted for my life and career," said de Melo.

"Very pleased to say that I''ve entered the second section of this list as of today. This theatre, with this material, with this number of participants. I can''t wait to get started [red heart emoji].

Weatherfield''s finest was dropped by the comment section to express their condolences, with Abi Webster''s Sally Carman saying: "Ooooooh! Very exciting!"

With three clapping emojis, Alexandra Mardell, better known as Emma Brooker, said: "Yes!"

Mardell is set to star in BBC Radio''s four-part comedy No Platformed.

Hugh Dennis and Tim Downie of Outlander are also involved in the synopsis, with a synopsis easing: "Three members of staff, one dysfunctional railway station, zero passengers." A brand new comedy that drives a train through sitcom-land via a platform populated with big-name cameos, absurd goings-on, and very silly jokes.

On ITV, Coronation Street runs on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, and is streamed on the ITV Hub.
