Season 3 of The Umbrella Academy pits the Umbrellas against a fresh group of super-children from Reginald Hargreeves. And while that opens the door for plenty of fights and speculation, it also leads to one of the most engaging moments of the season, a Footloose-inspired dance-off.
Polygon asked the cast of the Netflix show about their favorite group scenes of the season, and that dance scene was a common choice. What begins as a tense confrontation between the Umbrellas and Sparrows takes on an edge, culminating in a smooth transition between the two groups. It''s a fun sequence, beginning with a competitive dance, before breaking off into a joint number involving everyone dancing together.
Emmy Raver-Lampman said the dance was fantastic. It''s always a great day, especially when all of the new cast members playing the Sparrows are there. We often laugh all day.
The complicated sequence was then shot for five or six days, according to Raver-Lampman.
The Umbrella Academy''s subsequent episodes will be revealed. [Ed. note: Spoilers
At the end of the universe, a Luther and Sloanes wedding was another popular choice. It was a rare opportunity for sentimentality among the chaos of an apocalypse (not to mention everything else going on in the season).
The wedding was really fantastic, as we all got to act drunk as F, according to Robert Sheehan. We walked in this beautiful building in Toronto called the Liberty Grand Ballroom, where Torontonians like to go and have their wedding. And [it was really nice] even though it smells a bit like death musty, and it is certainly haunting.
Justin H. Min said that the night was so special, that you could really feel it in the air. It was like 3 in the morning, but it was just so nice to be together as a family, and it was just as simple as seeing a pin drop. It was so well-being dwindled.
Ritu Arya had an unusual desire (and motif) for her to have a scene in which Allison and Viktor clash in the background. Aryus Lila snoozes.
I was able to like, go for it, according to Arya. And then when you finish the scene, continuity comes and everything is replaced. I must have eaten 20 of these rainbow cookies, like 20 Twizzlers, I just had all this junk food. I felt terrible afterwards, but it was quite amazing. In the moment, it was quite clear.
The cast enjoyed playing (and sweets) while also filming some quite challenging scenes. Notably, the end of the show, which included a group screaming session.
Min said the worst scene to shoot together was the scene in which everybody screamed in agony for 12 hours. Literally, it was the toughest day ever, because we just stood there and had to look up into the sky and our necks all were hurt because we were screaming.
