Kate Garraway, host of Good Morning Britain, has revealed how her relationship with husband Derek Draper has changed since she became his carer.
"When you near lose someone, it puts everything in great control," Garraway tells Good Housekeeping.
After being discharged, Draper has returned home for the duration of his illness.
"We''re still learning how we become man and wife in many ways," Garraway said.
In 2005, the couple married and had a daughter, Darcey, and a son, William.
"It''s the same for the children they''re having to remember the joy of being with their father," says the director of a charity. "And, of course, the most important learning is for poor Derek."
In September 2021, Garraway revealed that she will produce a sequel to Kate Garraway''s ITV documentary: Finding Derek, which focuses on her husband as he was hospitalized due to organ failure and infections. The film was a nominated for the National Television Awards (NTAs) last year.
Garraway said that filming a second documentary will depend on her husband''s health during her speech at the National Tony Awards.
"Derek has a very short window of energy, but we are trying. He has lived in the United States for four months, and it was enough for him to stay here," she said. "Now we are really hoping we can have more and more people in to see him."
Kate Garraway: Finding Derek was posted on ITV in March 2021, and is now available on YouTube.
