This article outlines the end of season four of Stranger Things as well as your clues or desires.
The second part of Stranger Things was a nightmare, not just because of the run time. In the final run of episodes, the entire cast of characters converged on Hawkins and defeated the Vecna sorta.
Although they survived the battle, the war still looms in a real way, as Vecnas' attempts to merge the Upside Down and the regular world pose a larger threat than ever before. Achieved by four worlds, there is still a particle monster/shadow that Joyce and Hopper glimpsed in Russia.
All this makes the streaming season a rather big one, assuming the Upside Down monsters will be worse than ever. Naturally, every lingering question feels a little less complicated than it might otherwise. While Stranger Things is known to inflate some episode lengths, there is still a (relatively) limited time to complete the cast's adventures. And that's all before we get to the conclusion of their latest Upside Down problem.
What happened to Vecna?
Although the ground offensive against Nancy, Robin, and Steves successfully incapacitated Vecna, they both shot him out a window and burned him much by the time they arrived outside, he had passed away, leaving just a soot mark on the ground.
Does that mean that Vecna is well and truly dead? Yes, according to Will. Now that Im here in Hawkins, I can see him. And he is hurting, but he is still alive, Will told Mike. Its strange, knowing now who he was this whole time. But he does not want to be successful. But it is not until he takes everything and everyone. We must kill him.
What does that mean for Hawkins?
Many people from Hawkins are already moving away from the earthquake that caused the massive rifts through town. The Upside Down appears to be bleeding through to our world as vines cross the city and up buildings, electrical storms pop up, Upside Down dust begins to rain down, and the infected ground kills the plants.
Wills Upside Down Spidey sense lets him know that the storm clouds are crashing in. Soon everyone in town is looking up, hoping to see what happens now. While our cast of main characters knows better than regular townspeople, they dont seem to be capable of stopping it yet. As Vecna told Eleven: This is only the beginning. You have already lost.
Is Max dead?
Eleven hasn't recovered her even in her own headspace. Max held out for as long as she could in the psychic duel, but Eleven's victory in the Upside Down came too late. He had already begun the killing process, suspending Max in the air, systematically breaking her bones. She died shortly after.
El refused to accept this and used her powers to bring Max back to life to a point. Max is last seen in the hospital, where she is in a coma the doctors arent certain shell wake up from. This is where Max's mind has gone and if it can return to her body again is one of the most important issues facing this season. Although I'm sorry to say this is the last weve seen of Max on Stranger Things.
In Stranger Things 5, will Hopper and El still have matching haircuts?
Who knows. Perhaps they will really bond over it during this period and grow it out together. They might even complete the look with matching father-daughter outfits.
OK seriously: What is going on with Will?
Though Will finally got to show Mike his art and talk him up, it almost immediately prompted Will to sadly bawl by himself as he looked out the window. As he explained the thought process behind his painting, Will talked about how difficult it was to be different from others and was quite emotional.
While preparing Eleven's sensory deprivation tank/pizza freezer, Jonathan told Will that hes dissatisfied with how distant they have been. I dont want you to forget that im always here, regardless of what you have done, because youre my brother, and I love you. There is absolutely nothing in this world that will ever change that.
After a hug, Will returned to playing a supporting character, and we didn't receive any confirmation for what was going on with him throughout the entire season. In Part 1, when he was melancholily consoling Mike, he again talked about El in a way that felt like he was being concerned about himself. In the first episode, he told Mike in a charged moment. What if the most people you respect respect the truth?
Is it possible that there would be a lot more happening with Will and his own coming-of-age story? While it's just possible that Will come out to his friends and family in Stranger Things 4, it's unclear.
Is Nancy and Steve in love?
When you thought Stranger Things was done with a love triangle, you were back on the lookout for amorous trigonometry again. After spending the whole season trying to find the perfect girl, Steve discovered Nancy that she was the one in his tales of raising six Harringtons and road tripping around the country. Nancy seemed irritated or at least flattered.
While Steve had grown up to Jonathan, her boyfriend was unhappy with (physically and emotionally) throughout Stranger Things 4, but the season ended with those two awkwardly dancing around if they still make sense together. Nancy apologized for being distant, but also regretted his intentions to attend the same college as her. All in all, it doesn't seem like a clear skies for Jonathan and Nancy, Vecna or no.
Where will the Russians factor in?
The children were able to learn that Joyce, Murray, and Hopper were involved in the Soviet Union, nor did they or were assisting for the Vecnas forces in combating aliens. Ultimately, the Hopper rescue mission to Russia was vital, but it often felt assassinated to the rest of the season.
Important discoveries were made today: The Soviets are continuing to make contact with the Upside Down, implying that Brenner had made a better start on what the deal is, and how to utilize its monsters. Joyce and Hopper stumbled upon a (now) lab of Demodogs, other Upside Down monsters, and a particle monster that resembled the primitive form of the Mind Flayer.
Is the American military still looking for Eleven?
Although they were as a plot element when Eleven died in the Nevada desert, they were (for a moment) very concerned about how Eleven would handle her powers. Now that she has come into her own and Hawkins, Indiana has seemingly transformed into one massive gate, one might think the military would have a bone to pick with her and/or an apology note for not giving her a chance to stop this! What better time than the end of the world to mend fences and work together?
Will there be a time jump in season 5?
While Stranger Things 4's last moments seem to unfold back into battle, it's likely that there will be a time skip. For starters, Mike said El didn't feel comfortable fighting Vecna again, so she might have to train with Yoda more to experience the true potential of her abilities. Plus, Vecna is still recuperating, and if Max is going to get into the action, she will need her body to heal, out of fear of Eleven's disappearing mind.
While it's difficult to imagine that the Hawkins' foundation can't handle too much time lapsing between seasons, it would certainly provide El additional time to train and Max more time to heal.
No, why will we ever get Running Up That Hill out of our head?
Is there currently a large synth remix in the mix? Hoo boy. Here's to Kate Bush's resurgence!
