The Boy's boss explains Black Noir's surprise cartoon flashbacks ...

Follow The Boys spoilers.

Black Noir is kept on the run after a vengeful Soldier Boy, who has started offing supes left, right, and centre in the latest episode of The Boys.

Upon arriving at a pizza restaurant, Noir was approached by a group of animated characters, including pizza mascot Buster Beaver, who apparently previously assisted him in dealing with a mass murder and a boner in school. Both of the boys are quite sized.

Buster revealed Noir through an animated flashback between him and the 'Rapture' singer, revealing their admiration over Beverly Hills Cop for all things, and Noir's role in the mutiny.

"So the very first notion was flashbacks, but straight flashbacks, 1) they can be a little tedious, and 2) we did them already [in episode 3], and we had to have a whole battle to make them exciting. So I didn't want them to repeat.

"If there is a idiosyncratic method in which I can tell a story, I'll take it, because it's much more fun to come out of the box and tell something unique.

"It's strongly implied that [Noir's] alone, he's like Snow White, and other dreadful animals roaming around him. "If you look two or three episodes earlier, he's sketching Buster Beaver in the conference room.

"We even had a scene that was fixed because it just pulled you from the scene where he was laying out cans of beans in the corners of just a few scenes he was in to imply that he is always feeding the animals."

Will we see more of Black Noir's aloof friends?

Season 3 of The Boys is available on Amazon Prime Video, with new episodes coming to Netflix every Friday.
