Neighbours' final episode aired on UK screens yesterday (August 29), completing an incredible 37-year run.
The end was a moving one, with fans crying as the show pulled out all the stops to take the stage on a good note, including returning old characters to give them the boost they needed.
Over 2.5 million people tuned in to Channel 5 to see the finale as it aired in the United Kingdom, making it the show's highest rated episode since 2008 in the United Kingdom. It was also the show's third highest rated episode since it was built for itself on Channel 5.
The highly anticipated return of Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan ended up being the terrestrial slot winner, beating every other channel.
The daytime episode that followed the conclusion also performed admirably, with almost a million people tuning in between 1.45 and 6pm each.
On July 28, Neighbours said its final goodbyes to its Australian fans, and this time, it garnered its highest rating in 13 years.
With 1.2 million viewers across the country (typically the average is 100,000), the finale exceeded all expectations, becoming the largest episode of the program since 2009.
Neighbours would come to an end after almost four decades on air, and while supporters campaigned tirelessly to save it, it bore no fruit.
Despite the outcome, fans were ecstatic with the way Ramsey Street residents finally closed their doors.
Neighbours was released on Channel 5 and is available for streaming on My5 in the United Kingdom, while in Australia, it was broadcast on 10 Peach and is available on 10 Play.
