Call of Duty: Warzone Has Been Hit With Plagiarism Accusation Over New Skin ...

Call of Duty: Warzone is no stranger to wild and bizarre character skins. Whether it's Godzilla or the Terminator, Activision Blizzard has opened the game up to all manner of cosmetics that wouldn't be considered lore-friendly, though this isn't an issue for a game that mashes WW2, Cold War, and modern-day high-tech weapons.

Despite the fact that one of Call of Duty: Warzone's most recent paid skins has a certain flaw on its own. Namely, the new Floof Fury bundle includes a special Samoyed themed Operator skin for Kim Tae Young, which appears to have been copied. Sail Lin, the apparent original artist of the concept, has taken to Twitter to explain their reasoning, and it's quite convincing.

The recently leaked Warzone Umbrella Academy crossover is a great example of this. The Loyal Samoyed Operator skin, hosted on Lin's ArtStation profile, is also a popular one-off skin.

Loyal Samoyed, which was released just a few weeks after the controversial "Roze 3.0" skin for a different Warzone Operator, has already been taken off sale after Lin raised the issue with the developer, Raven Software, and Activision Blizzard itself. The artist's explanation on Twitter demonstrates how Loyal Samoyed draws heavily on the original artwork, including, but not limited to, the concept itself, the clothing, and surprising quantities of detail.

Loyal Samoyed was announced as a feature of the Season 4 game's Terminator character bundle, but it was immediately removed from sale as a result of the problem. This implies that the designer also discovered flaws in the way the skin was created, and felt the need to act, though there has been no official announcement as to what would follow.

Lin's assertions are hard-pressed to refute in these situations; the situation is similar to the one about last year's Magic: The Gathering plagiarism controversy, in that there seems to be no possibility of the artist lying about the situation. The new Warzone skin is a great improvement on the original version, although it would take time to make an official announcement.

Call of Duty: Warzone is now available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
