After Season 1's popularity, Abbott Elementary star reveals what makes the comedy so special ...

Abbott Elementary has received all of its due credit, from getting 2022 Emmy nominations to a top spot on ABC's primetime lineup. The show's eclectic faculty is well-known, and no one knows that more than Abbott Elementary's star, Chris Perfetti, who plays the awkward history teacher Jacob Hill.

The Jacob Hill actor equated the family-like atmosphere of the hit sitcom to his time working in a theater troupe. He talked to THR about what makes the cast so special compared to other TV projects he's been a part of.

Abbott was the most similar experience Ive ever experienced on television. It's a lovely marriage of people at the right time at the right place. Everyone believes they have the best cast, but I doubt it.

Perfetti was a surprise hit with the audience. The chemistry between the Abbott Elementary cast and students was what sold the program to viewers. But the mockumentary format was appropriate for Brunson, who said she was aware of the comedy before the cast began shooting the pilot.

From the moment he saw the script, the TV and stage actor knew that working with Jacob was something special. He admired the humor in the show as he imagined Jacob and his world:

It was this alchemical thing that just felt right. I developed this sense of jealousy when I saw someone else doing [the job].

Perfetti didnt have to slap angrily at the television, since he nailed the role. From the start, the show created a nice slice of representation as it handled his LGBTQ+ storyline in a fresh way by usurping traditional TV coming out tropes. Hopefully the second season will extend Jacob Hill's life beyond school, with a full 22-episode season.

Season 2 of Abbott Elementary will premiere on September 21 at 9 p.m. ET for the 2022-2023 TV season. Before the sophomore season arrives, grab a Hulu subscription to catch up on Season 1.
