'Nope,' says Keith David's Otis Sr. What Happened to Keith David's Otis Sr.? ...

Nope, Jordan Peele's latest genre film, begins with the only really horrible scene in the movie: Otis Senior, who is played by Keith David, when he is suddenly struck by illness or injury (Daniel Kaluuya), thus we have created this explanation for anyone who may be confused.

As Nope opens, Otis and OJ are preparing to ride horses when a storm of small, metal objects begins to burst from the sky. Something strikes Otis, causing him to bleed and list to the side, mumbling incoherently, before Otis dies. An X-ray and a small evidence baggie reveal what happened: a nickel fell from the sky at such a rapid rate that it embedded itself in Otis' brain through his eye socket. However,

For a good part of the film, this cascade of small metal objects is a mystery. Where did they come from? Why did they fly off the ground?

Jean Jacket, named after OJ and his sister Emerald (Keke Palmer), sucks up and eats human beings, and it vomits everything it can, including keys, shoes, cell phones, and, interestingly, blood.

So, in other words, Jean Jacket's delicate gastrointestinal system is what causes Keith David's character to die.
