The pity system is a hidden feature that makes achieving that fate a little easier.
This feature exists to remove some of the volatility inherent in the gacha system. Players will simply be permitted to roll an item of high rarity after a set number of wishes, which inGenshin Impactare four- and five-star weapons or characters. Simply put, the game takes pity on you for your unfortunate luck by rewarding you with the items you desired.
The Genshin Impact pity system has been recognized a few times by the game developers themselves, but little has been officially established about it. Powered by the hordes ofGenshin Impactplayers, it is accepted as an unspoken but real mechanic in the game.
There is a second type of pity, called soft pity, that helps you sway RNG on your side.
Soft pity, the more hidden pity system of the two, increases the probability of players pulling rare items after a certain number of wishes, increasing this probability with every subsequent wish. Unlike standard pity, soft pity increases the likelihood of a rare drop.
The different banners in the game have different pity and soft pity values, and knowing the exact pity values might help you out.
In Genshin Impact, pity and soft pity values for different banners
Both the Standard Banner and the Character Event banners have similar pity rates. Both of these banners have a 90 percent rate for five-star ratings, which means that if you haven't received a five-star pull in either of these banners after 89 wishes, you are likely to receive one on your 90th wish, after which your pity counter will reset.
Both banners have a soft pity rate beginning at the 75th wish, increasing the player's chance of obtaining a five-star pull with every wish until it reaches a 100% chance on the 90th pull.
The odds of a four-star pull for both banners is 10, which means a four-star pull is guaranteed after nine unsuccessful attempts.
When players receive a five-star character from a wish, they have a 50/50 chance of it being the featured character on the banner. If they lose the 50/50 and receive the character, not on the banner, they are guaranteed the featured character the next time they receive a five-star character through a wish.
In Weapon Event Banners, the pity rate for five-star weapons is actually lower than the rest, sitting at 80. This means that after 79 unsuccessful five-star weapon wishes, you are guaranteed a five-star weapon on the 80th wish.
For Weapon Event Banners, the soft pity begins faster than usual, starting with the 65th wish. This means the player will gradually increase the probability of pulling a five-star weapon with every wish until it reaches a 100% chance on the 80th pull.
The chance rate for a four-star pull for Weapon Event Banners is 10, similar to the other banners, though that is not guaranteed.
The Epitomized Path is a new Weapon Event Banner feature that allows players to pick which five-star weapon they want, and earn Fate Points when they buy the wrong one. When players have accumulated two Fate Points, the next five-star is guaranteed to be the one they chose earlier.
Players should note that pity will carry over onto new weapons of the same type, such as Standard or Character Banners.
