Will Smith's Oscars confrontation sparked a stir on the internet as a result. The King Richard actor said he's here whenever Rock is ready to talk. Though he did give a brief explanation in a recent stand-up act, the result has been significant.
Chris Rock has pretty much returned to his roots after Will Smith's Academy Awards snafu. He even performed at a number of venues in the past few months. On Friday, Rock presented a huge concert at MSG with Kevin Hart and Dave Chappelle as part of his Chris Rock Ego Death World Tour (via CNN) shortly after Will Smith's video was released.
Everyone is attempting to be a fucking victim. If everyone claims to be a victim, nobody will know who is actually victims. Even me being smacked by Suge Smith I went to work the next day, I had kids.
Chris Rock has played coy when it comes to discussing his true feelings about what transpired on Oscar night. For example, a few months ago, Rock joked about Dave Chappelle being hit in the face; and, at this most recent show, he continued this trend:
Anyone who claims to have hurt words has never been struck in the face.
Will Smith punched the head of State during his presentation of the Best Documentary Feature during this years Oscars ceremony. The narrator joked that he was looking forward to seeing Smiths wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, in a G.I. Jane sequel (referring to her shaved head). Smith was ejected on stage shortly afterwards.
Chris Rock declined to file charges after the incident. The following week, the actor apologized for what happened at the Oscars. He then resigned from the Academy after chastising Rock, with the organization later expelling him for a decade as retaliation.
Will Smith appears to be going to keep things to a minimum for a little while. While Chris Rock is growing in popularity on social media, and is engaged in a Hollywood romance with actress Lake Bell. It's clear that Smith wants to make amends with Rock, and even Jada Pinkett Smith has called for a reconciliation. However, they'll just have to wait for the comedy to decide when he's ready to open up.
