HBO Max has a new parent company in Warner Bros. Discovery, which is, according to Deadline, causing havoc for the Gordita Chronicles. The critically-acclaimed family comedy is coming to an end after just one season.
What's going on here? A spokesperson for the streaming service says there are no plans to concentrate on live-action kids or family programming for the foreseeable future:
Weve had to make the very difficult decision to put an end to the Gordita Chronicles at HBO Max. We are grateful to Eva Longoria (who also brilliantly directed the pilot) and Zoe Saldana for bringing Cucus' journey to the screen.
Saldana and Longoria had the following to say in a statement of their own:
We are extremely disappointed by the larger programming changes at HBO Max that will not allow our special show, Gordita Chronicles, which is being run by LatinX comedy powerhouse Brigitte Munoz-Liebowitz, to continue its run at its original home. We are so grateful to have contributed to this incredible piece of magic.
There are plans forTheordita Chronicles to be resold elsewhere. HBO Max has already canceled theirHead of the Class reboot, and they are not accepting additional proposals for future live-action family/kids programming. TBS and TNT are also in the midst of a major overhaul that has resulted in the cancellation of many programs.
