Garcia vs Benavidez Preview
Benavidez, a Phoenix resident, is the main protagonist in much of the tape's telling. According to BoxRec., he is the tallest of the two fighters by a few inches.
Benavidez has also been four years younger than his 34-year-old opponent and is weighing in at a pound heavier, according to The Ring Magazine. Benavidez has also received a 10-round knockout from WBO welterweight competitor Terence Bud Crawford in October 2018.
Garcia has an advantage in experience. In 39 fights, he has accumulated 270 rounds, compared to Benavidez's 29 bouts. Like his opponent, Garcia is also not entering this fight with much momentum, having lost to Errol Spence Jr. by unanimous decision back in 2020.
Garcia has achieved an impressive standing in the super welterweight division, according to BoxingScene.coms Keith Idec: I feel like he is too small. Im the bigger fighter, the stronger fighter.
Garcia had no problem falling under the 154-pound limit, according to SHOWTIME Boxing:
No Problem. #GarciaBenavidez is all good on the.twitter.com/nUfeZuJl24. New Division. No Problem.
SHOWTIME Boxing (@ShowtimeBoxing) will be held on July 29, 2022.
Although not everyone is convinced, Garcia's punching ability should not be a problem for him at the heavier weight. Patrick Stumberg of SB Nations Bad Left Hook believes Garcia's punching ability will be ineffective to build the confidence he requires for his low-output technique to work at this weight.
If Garcia wants to get back on track with his career, Stumberg must prove his innocence. Garcia has to endure hardships that have not been overcome by his experience.
ESPN's Mike Coppinger explains his missteps: while he has victories over Paulie Malignaggi, Robert Guerrero, and Brandon Rios at 147 pounds, his season in the division has been highlighted by close defeats to Keith Thurman and Shawn Porter, as well as the Spence fight where he was not competitive.
Garcia is determined to avenge his defeat against Spence before he finishes his bout at 154:

Garcia has the potential to put on a show against Benavidez, who lacks the experience of his more battle-tested and illustrious opponent. After everything goes the distance, expect Benavidez to be on the wrong end of a unanimous decision.
