OpTic Gaming's best VALORANT team in North America is in the dead, as two of the core members' contracts will expire in two months, according to numerous sources with knowledge of the situation.
Both Victor Wongs and Austin crashies Roberts' contracts are expected to expire during VCT Champions, which OpTic are scheduled to attend in early September. The duo will require new contracts to remain on the roster in case OpTic loses both players.
The other OpTic players have contracts that expire next year or onwards. However, the OpTic roster wishes to keep the same players going next year.
If OpTic is to continue to compete at the highest level next year, they will need to earn qualification for partnership in the Americas league. Riot Games, the tournament hosts, and VALORANT developers will notify the organization prior to Champions if they have been selected to join the league.
After this year's Champions, the players' futures will be in jeopardy.
Following consecutive excellent performances on the international stage, OpTic finished first at VCT 2022: Stage 1 Masters in Reykjavik, Iceland. They followed that performance by finishing third at VCT 2022: Stage 2 Masters in Copenhagen, Denmark. OpTic was defeated by FunPlus Phoenix, the eventual tournament victors, in the grand final.
