England vs Germany Preview

Germany is on track to reclaim the Euro women's soccer crown, while England is on pace to win the first-ever championship.

England's head coach, Sarina Wiegman, told the media via Reuters that this is history. We want to inspire the country. I believe that's what we're doing. We want to make a difference.

England won 4-0 in a 4-0 semifinal match on July 24. Beth Mead, Lucy Bronze, Alessia Russo, and Fran Kirby scored goals for England. Russos back-heeled goal perhaps stole the show.

I believe that when you're enjoying football, you're at your best. Perhaps [even simply attempting that goal] does show a bit of confidence, but im just enjoying playing football, Russo said via PA Medias Phi Medlicott.

To be honest, the first [shot] I should have scored we were actually attempting to cut-backs in training the other day, Russo added. And then I thought, Right, what is the quickest route for this ball to get into the net? because I should have scored in the first place.

Russo said that scoring in a semi-final and progressing to the final is a major highlight of my career. I do not normally score back-heels, and I don't expect you to see one again. But I'll take it for the time!

In the semifinals, Germany did not have any back-heeled goals, but the Germans had to fight back against France for a 2-1 victory on July 27.

Alexandra Popp scored twice for Germany in the victory. Merle Frohms scored the only goal for France, the only goal which Germany has surrendered throughout the tournament.

I have to admit that I am more emotional than I was before, because I know how I have arrived at this stage. Being here, having the opportunity to perform, and being fully fit at this stage makes me very proud, according to ESPN's Kathleen McNamee.

I have to extend my thanks to everyone who has assisted me, including the medical staff at my club and the coaches here. They kept believing in me and gave me the chance to be here.
