MultiVersus has done an outstanding job of bringing together characters from several major franchises, whether it's superheroes from DC Comics, LeBron James from Space Jam, or cartoons like Bugs Bunny, Stephen Universe, and the Iron Giant. That includes MultiVersus game director Tony Huynh, who recently stated that he'll "try really hard" to get them included in MultiVersus.
Huynh has been extremely active on Twitter since MultiVersus launched its early access Open Beta, responding to MultiVersus players on a wide spectrum of topics. Huynh said in a tweet on Friday that they are working on an upcoming character, and that developer Player First Games has some "really cool stuff" in store. A fan asked if Mordecai and Rigby from Regular Show might be included in MultiVersus. Huynh responded and was open to the possibility.
Huynh said of the possibility of adding Mordecai and Rigby to MultiVersus: "I'll try really hard." He'd go on to say that Regular Show is one of his "favorite" shows. Huynh does not respond to every tweet, and fewer yet for random characters to be added to the game.
Just because Huynh wants to see Mordecai and Rigby in MultiVersus, it doesn't mean that it will happen, of course. Huynh, as the game director for MultiVersus, does not have any influence over every creative decision Player First Games makes. And, even if he did have the power to make it happen immediately, Huynh wouldn't prioritize his own favorites over other characters that might succeed in MultiVersus.
Mordecai and Rigby had an incredible amount of bizarre adventures with their co-workers Hi-Five Ghost, Muscle Man, Pops, and Skips, along with their boss Benson, between 2009 and 2017. Regular Show was best known for its strange mix of absurdity and mundane slice-of-life elements.
MultiVersus is open to adding oddball Cartoon Network characters to the game, according to reports. If Adventure Time and Steven Universe can be a part of the fighting game universe, so can Regular Show. The addition of Huynh makes the addition even more appealing, although Mordecai and Rigby may take some time before they make their way to the game.
MultiVersus is now available in an open beta on PC, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
