What to Watch If You Like The Ryan Gosling Action Thriller The Gray Man ...

The Gray Man, starring Ryan Gosling as a CIA black ops assassin being chased by his own agency, has been one of the most popular Netflix movies in 2022, and fans are unconcerned about it.

Before the eventual sequel and spinoff come out at some point in the future, we'll all need to find a way to spend the time before we resurrect The Gray Man cast (or what's left of it). One approach we can take is to watch other titles that have at least one thing in common with one of the best new movies of the year.

Drive (Amazon Rental)

After a job with his neighbors ex-convict husband (Oscar Isaac) goes horribly wrong, an unnamed stunt driver (Ryan Gosling) who also works as a getaway driver in Los Angeles finds himself in a tricky situation.

Nicolas Winding Refn's 2011 neo-noir thriller Drive, is the very definition of calm, cool, and collected, even in the most dangerous of situations. But, equally like his CIA mercenary on the run in his latest film, his driver has a soft spot for children in need.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier (Disney+)

Following the events of The Avengers, Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) undergoes a significant change when he discovers that Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) isn't actually dead, but he's a brainwashed super-soldier serving as a deadly assassin.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier is a pivotal piece in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as The First Avenger discovers who he can and cannot trust, especially within S.H.I.E.L.D. On top of the similarities in story, the 2014 film also marked the first time Chris Evans worked with the Russo Brothers, although his character's demeanor couldn't be more different.

No Time To Die (Prime Video)

James Bond (Daniel Craig) is enjoying his retirement in peace and quiet. When Felix Leiter (Jeffrey Wright) pays a surprise visit to seek help, 007 encounters another challenge that might very well be his last.

The No Time to Die cast is stacked with exceptional actors from top to bottom, with one of the standouts being Ana de Armas, Paloma, the CIA agent who provides one of the finest scenes in the film. Even if you didn't like de Armas in The Gray Man, youll love her here.

No Time to Die is available on Prime Video. (opens in new tab) Rent/Buy No Time to Die on Amazon. (opens in new tab)

Mission: Impossible - Fallout (Paramount+)

Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and the rest of his IMF team join forces with CIA agent August Walker (Henry Cavill) to discover three plutonium cores that the group intends to use to destroy three holy cities in an attempt to stop the Apostles terrorist group.

The sixth installment of Mission: Impossible, 2018's Fallout, is probably your best. There are over-the-top action sequences and fights (including a ridiculous airplane sequence), double-crossing, and a mustached and psychotic villain in what has to be one of the greatest action films of all time.

Jack Ryan (Prime Video)

Jack Ryan (John Krasinski) is a former United States Marine who is working as an analyst for the CIA, far from the action. However, when he connects some questionable bank transactions to a terrorist organization, he is placed on field duty and never the same.

Jack Ryan, an Amazon original series, is based on a younger and less experienced CIA analyst who is one of Tom Clancy's most well-known characters. Fans of The Gray Man will find plenty of action, suspense, and satisfying narratives throughout its first two seasons.

Jack Ryan is available on Prime Video (opens in new tab) to watch.

Extraction (Netflix)

Tyler Rake (Chris Hemsworth) is hired to track down and rescue Ovi Mahajan Jr. (Rudraksh Jaiswal), the kidnapped son of an Indian crime lord. What initially appears to be a simple operation turns into something more complex as the truth begins to unfold.

Extraction, a 2020 Netflix film directed by Joe Russo, is a fun, loud, and conflicted thriller that finds that perfect balance between intense action, heart, and humor, delivering a memorable experience.

The Raid 2 (HBO Max)

Rama (Iko Uwais) is sent on another assignment shortly after he and an elite force exorcise a Jakarta criminal boss. The only difference this time is that he will be forced to go undercover to infiltrate a massive criminal operation from the inside.

The Raid 2, a 2014 crime epic by Gareth Evans, ups the ante by a few hundred points. Like The Gray Man, this instant classic is massive in scope and features some of the most striking and eye-catching fight sequences of the past decade. Its a bummer that The Raid 3 isn't coming to an end.

Homeland (Showtime)

Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes) is assigned to investigate decorated United States Marine Nicholas Brody (Damian Lewis), who was captured and possibly turned against his country by a terrorist group. Things only get more complicated from there.

Homeland, a Showtime original series, is packed with espionage, back-channel agreements, and untrustworthy characters. It's going to take a lot of time to watch the award-winning series, but it's ideal for enthusiasts of the genre.

John Wick (Peacock)

After a group of young criminals with connections to a Russian crime syndicate in New York City make the mistake of assassinating John Wicks (Keanu Reeves) a dog, which was given to him by his dead wife, and steal his automobile, the legendary assassin comes out of retirement and turns the criminal underworld on its head.

All of John Wick's films should be seen, especially with the fourth installment on the way, but this is the ideal start, obviously. Wait until you see what Mr. Wick can do behind a weapon and any other weapon.

Enemy Of The State (Amazon Rental)

After an old college pal handed him a disc showing the agency's head, Thomas Reynolds (Jon Voight), murdering a member of congress, Washington, D.C. Attorney Robert Dean (Will Smith) finds himself the most-wanted man by theNSA.

Tony Scott's Enemy of the State is one of the few movies on this list that shares the most with The Gray Man, since they both focus on characters who find themselves in the wrong place at the wrong time and become part of an agency's attempt to sweep the situation under the rug.

The Night Manager (Prime Video)

Jonathan Pine (Tom Hiddleston) is charged with deposing one of the world's finest weapons dealers, Richard Roper (Hugh Laurie), triggering an epic and tragic turn of events.

The Night Manager, a 2016 limited series, isnt as sensational or over-the-top as The Gray Man, but it packs a punch. If you are interested in seedy government agencies, loud personalities, and great action, then look no further.

The Kings Man (Hulu / HBO Max)

Orlando Oxford (Ralph Fiennes) assembles a team of spies to prevent the unthinkable from happening in an attempt to deter a mysterious group of terrorists from enraging the world in the most devastating war of all time.

The Kings Man, Matthew Vaughn's 2021 spy action film, is a fantastic prequel to his Kingsman series as well as being a fantastic World War I thriller with its fair share of historical figures. This is a great movie to see if you like stylized and unique fight scenes.

Hulu is offering The Kings Man as a streaming service. (opens in new tab) HBO Max is streaming The Kings Man. (opens in new tab) Amazon is offering The Kings Man for rent. (opens in new tab)

For one reason or another, each of these titles has a lot in common with The Gray Man. But these arent the only movies and shows that should be seen by devotees of the Russo brothers' latest effort.
