Following a game-breaking bug, Bungie has removed Destiny 2's text chat ...

Bungie has shut down the Destiny 2 text chat after players exploited the feature. Crafty Guardians were able to sabotage another player's game through the whisper function of the text chat, causing many difficulties.

A Destiny 2 player may whisper a text string to another player, causing the receiver's game to crash. The following are two lines from the four-line string.

this is the first two lines of four total from the old string

Players had to follow a set of strict guidelines in order to avoid being swayed by whispers, refraining from entering their clans, and eviting chat areas that allowed local or team conversations. Essentially, players were hiding and waiting for the storm to pass.

Bungie became aware of the situation and informed Destiny 2 players that they would investigate it. A few minutes later, Bungie tweeted that they would suspend text chat completely until a solution was discovered.

While we investigate a problem causing Weasel errors, Destiny 2 has temporarily disabled text chat on all platforms. Stay tuned for updates.

With more players bolstering the text chat system, players couldt be left to fend for themselves throughout the weekend. This underscored the seriousness of the situation. All platforms are affected by the elimination of text-based chat.

It is useless to use the string of characters because it disrupts the game of the person who sent it.

As shown in the tweet below, sending it is simple and takes only a few seconds.

Apparently, there is a text string that if you send to someone via the in-game chat, their game will crash. This is happening right now on several #Destiny2 Twitch streams. Bungie is looking into this

If Bungie discovers who is sending out whispers and purposefully breaking the game to troll, you may be liable for some sort of ban. It may be quite simple to be discovered since Destiny 2 chat logs are likely to be recorded.
