How Could Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Have Different Forms From Deerling and Sawsbuck? ...

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet will be released for Switch in less than four months, and many fans are eager to get their hands on them. At this stage, only two official trailers have been released, leaving fans in the dark about what features Pokemon Scarlet and Violet will have and what monsters will be present.

There are still 60 Pokemon left out of Gen 8, with Pokemon Legends: Arceus including three that were previously unavailable on modern consoles - the whole Oshawott evolution line. Deerling and Sawsbuck are among the few Pokemon that may be more difficult than others to reintroduce due to their unique seasonal forms. There are also other technical reasons why this might not work as well in the future.

Deerling and Sawsbuck's Unlikely Forms Could Find a Way into Gen 9

The problem with Gen 5 was that it allowed players to obtain all four Deerling forms: winter, spring, summer, and autumn. This may be difficult to achieve on the Switch due to how easily players can change the date and time on their consoles to affect their games, which is something that Gen 8 saw often due to changing monster availabilities in the Wild Areas and Max Raid battles.

The effect of changing the date and time on Pokemon Sword and Shield was significant enough that it was used to select the best Pokemon or complete time-gated encounters. This was especially useful in Max Raid battles, in which players could change the critters available to guarantee special Gigantamax encounters, although they were intended as rare events.

Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl had a bug that required players to change the time and date before the post-game portion of the remakes. It might be even more difficult to get the forms to appear on a seasonal cycle since there are no loading screens in between areas. Instead, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet will have a specially-tailored climate.

Deerling and Sawsbuck's seasonal forms might be included in the base game and expansions, while each form would be in an adequate condition for its own season. That, or Game Freak might simply add them all to the base game if appropriate.

On November 18, 2022, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet will be released for Nintendo Switch.
